Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for discouraging flight from the scene of an accident. More specifically, the present invention relates to a device for discouraging a driver from fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
  • Japanese Patent Application 11245854 discloses a column formed from a fragile material, such as glass or plastic, wherein the column is marked in numerous places with a mark identifying the particular vehicle. On impact, the column fractures, leaving a large number of particles having a means of identifying the vehicle at the scene of the accident. However, not all collisions will cause the column to fracture. In particular, collisions with less massive objects, such as pedestrians are unlikely to fracture the column so the problem of hit and run accidents is largely unsolved.
  • Japanese Patent Application 11310169 discloses an invention that incorporates a reservoir of vehicle identifying markers that are dropped onto the surface of the road when the vehicle is subjected to an impact when the brakes are applied, or when a sensor detected a foreign object when the brakes are applied.
