  • calcium carbonate not only supplies the body with an essential nutrient (calcium), but also serves as a hydrophobic conditioner to prevent caking in food powders
  • calcium carbonate is a pigment typically used as a filler or coating material. While calcium carbonate is not suitable for use in some acid-based paper making processes, it is a desirable filler material because it is relatively inexpensive and imparts good light scattering efficiency to paper resulting in a brighter, more opaque paper, while also providing a high resistance to yellowing and aging.
  • the first step is a primary grinding step in which the calcium carbonate ore is reduced in particle size by autogenous grinding.
  • a flotation step is used, to remove non-carbonate impurities so that the resulting product is almost pure calcium carbonate. This flotation step is often followed by one or more grinding steps making use of grinding media.

Abstract

Dans la présente invention, un procédé de préparation d'une composition de pigment consiste à produire une composition de pigment au carbonate de calcium qui confère au papier des propriétés efficaces de diffusion de la lumière, de brillance et d'opacité. Le pigment est également utile dans d'autres matériaux, autres que le papier. Le procédé comprend principalement les étapes qui consistent à utiliser un carbonate de calcium précipité ayant une granulométrie médiane, en poids, inférieure à environ 1,6 micron, à utiliser un carbonate de calcium broyé ayant une granulométrie moyenne, en poids, inférieure à environ 0,8 micron, et à mélanger le carbonate de calcium précipité avec le carbonate de calcium broyé suivant un rapport en poids entre le carbonate de calcium précipité et le carbonate de calcium broyé qui se situe entre environ 3:2 et environ 1:9, pour former la composition de pigment.
