- the present invention relates to a device for projecting water jets, useful in particular for the hydraulic bonding of fibers in nonwovens.
- This bonding consists of sending a curtain of pressurized water jets over a sheet of fibers to entangle them and form them into a coherent sheet, without requiring the use of binder or resin. It is also possible to bind sheet material, such as textile complexes, films, paper, fabrics, knits.
- a device for projecting water jets comprising a body resistant to pressure and delimiting an interior chamber having an inlet and communicating, with the interposition of a perforated plate, with a through outlet outside the body, the face of the perforated plate facing the outlet being in contact with a first seal housed in a first part of a seal holder having a slot facing the outlet, a second seal housed in the seal holder being in contact with the body.
- This device is easy to build and maintain. But experience has shown it to be ineffective in obtaining good hydraulic binding.
- the invention remedies this by a device for projecting water jets, which, while being easily mounted and maintained, is very effective.
- said first part of the seal carrier in contact with the perforated plate has, at least near the slot, a thickness of less than 10 mm.
- the ineffectiveness of the prior devices stems from the large distance between the perforated plate and the outlet.
- the jets lose speed over this long distance. Thinning the seal holder prevents this loss of speed and improves efficiency.
- the thickness of the middle part in the vicinity of the slot is at least 2 mm, so that the seal carrier has sufficient mechanical strength. Preferably, the thickness is between 3 and 6 mm.
- the seal carrier is slidably mounted in the body parallel to the axis of the interior chamber. To facilitate this movement, said first part is a middle part and is continued by two parts of thicker ends, the thickness of which extends in the direction of the interior chamber. The two end portions are respectively in contact with the longitudinal edges of the perforated plate and maintain it.
- the two end parts penetrate by their free end into guide grooves of the seal carrier, formed in the body.
