- thermosetting plastic material is mostly used for low purposes, and steel is used in most cases for high loads. So far it has probably been considered that this group of materials is not suitable for the intended purpose. It is all the more surprising that the inventor managed to use the thermoset materials as a sprocket for the timing chain drive of an internal combustion engine. In addition to the good noise-reducing properties of such a sprocket, the advantages in terms of weight reduction also come to the fore.

- the Duroplast including any fillers it contains, maintains its high mechanical properties (e.g. compressive strength, flexural strength) even at higher temperatures (e.g. at 140 ° C).
- These mechanical properties can be of the order of magnitude of aluminum materials. Thermoplastics begin to flow at such temperatures, so that appropriate countermeasures have to be taken. These do not apply when using thermoset materials.
