Abstract

L'invention porte sur un procédé économique et à fort débit de fabrication de paillettes fonctionnelles ou décoratives consistant à appliquer des empilements de couches alternées de métal et d'anti-adhérent sur un tambour tournant refroidi ou sur tout support adapté placé dans une chambre d'évaporation sous vide. Les couches de métal sont déposées par évaporation sous vide et les couches intercalaires, faites de préférence d'un thermoplastique soluble dans un solvant ou de polymères faiblement réticulés, le sont par évaporation sous vide de sources placées dans la chambre. L'empilement est alors retiré du tambour puis traité par un solvant organique adapté qui dissout l'anti-adhérent dans un processus d'extraction qui laisse les paillettes métalliques quasiment exemptes d'anti-adhérent. Le solvant et l'anti-adhérent sont alors extraits par centrifugation ce qui laisse un gâteau de paillettes concentrées qu'on peut désagréger à l'air puis décharger sur un moyen de transport et calibrer et homogénéiser pour ses utilisations finales dans des encres, des peintures ou des revêtements. Dans une exécution les paillettes peuvent provenir de couches uniques de métal ou d'alliage métalliques, ou de matériaux minéraux; dans une autre exécution elles peuvent être revêtues des deux côtés de couches protectrices de polymères appliquées à partir de sources appropriées placées dans la chambre d'évaporation. L'anti-adhérent peut être fait d'un polymère réticulable et durcissable sous l'effet de rayonnements, à faible densité de réticulation, déposé par évaporation. L'exposition à des rayons de forte énergie réticule suffisamment l'anti-adhérent pour produire des couches solubles sensiblement non collantes. Dans une exécution l'empilement est accumulé sur un convoyeur sans fin traversant la chambre d'évaporation et une cloison étanche la séparant de la chambre d'extraction, les deux chambres étant en dépression lors de la décharge des paillettes sur le convoyeur. Pour prélever périodiquement le dépôt, on réduit la vitesse du convoyeur, on ralentit les sources de dépôt de la chambre, et on place un dispositif de recueil des vapeurs de dépôt, dans la chambre d'extraction, sous le convoyeur après interposition de cloisons étanches qui maintiennent la chambre d'extraction en dépression pendant le prélèvement sur le convoyeur du matériau déposé par évaporation sous vide.
