Definitions
- the present invention relates to a manual can opener with a crank, whose obvious purpose is to serve as a means for opening metal containers, such as tin cans and tin cans, containers of food products.
- the object of the invention is to provide to the market and the general public a can opener that presents a series of innovations on the basis of which new benefits are obtained, such as a smaller effort in the realization of the manual opening of the container, a longer duration of the service life of the can opener itself, and even greater efficiency in its function.
- the opening is carried out in some cases by manual pulling of a ring or tongue, on the basis of which a tear is produced through a weakened line of the corresponding closing lid, this materializing the upper base of the container.
- the opening is carried out by cutting said lid to separate it from the container, or at least sectioning a part of said lid to allow the contents to escape.
- the can openers through which the opening is made by cutting a type based on a kind of jaw formed by two manually operated arms is known to be able to carry out the opening and / or closing of the jaw itself, so that in the closing position of the latter, a conveniently established cutting blade is applied on the lid of the container, producing the cutting thereof.
- Said can opener is also provided with a toothed crown provided laterally, constituting the means of advancing the can opener on the periphery of the container, in order to produce the perimeter cut of the said lid and thereby the opening that is intended.
- the peripheral edge of the cover is disposed between a lower stop or flange provided in one of the jaw arms and the toothed crown itself, in order to establish the guiding means in the feed and allow the continuous cutting to occur without headers by the can opener.
- the drive to perform the cut is carried out by turning a throttle provided on the side opposite that of the toothed crown of the can opener.
- Another drawback is the lack of stability in the positioning and advance of the can opener on the container, when the corresponding jaw is closed, since over time there are gaps between the two articulation arms of said jaw, which allow the can opener is decoupled from the container through the stop or flange of support and sliding on the bottom edge of the classic flange of the container.
- the can opener that is recommended being of the second type referred to in the previous section, that is to say, those that perform the opening by means of continuous cutting or sectioning of the lid, presents a series of particularities and innovations through which the inconveniences are resolved previously cited. That is, the can opener of the invention is of the type constituted from a kind of jaw with two arms that close the cutting blade on the lid of the container that is intended to be opened by cutting or sectioning said lid.
- One of the novelty characteristics of the can opener of the invention consists in incorporating a hand-operated crank in replacement of the classic handle, said crank of notable length being able to provide a long lever arm that allows it to be operated in rotation with a minimal effort
- one of the two jaw arms specifically the one that tilts with respect to the other arm, has a ribbed configuration that, in combination with a protuberance of the other arm, considered the latter as the main one, provides a tongue and groove coupling between both elements in the operative position of the can opener, which means that the axis of articulation of said arms does not support or be subjected to stresses that could produce a mismatch of these with respect to the axis itself.
- Another novel feature of the can opener consists of a very ergonomic configuration of the main arm that allows handling more comfortable can opener.
- Another novelty feature of the can opener consists in the incorporation of a ratchet that allows the continuous cutting of the lid without the need to make the complete turn of the crank, simply by performing successive tilting movements in either direction of the crank itself, what can be achieved through the aforementioned ratchet.
- This solution allows the opening of any container supported on a surface, such as the countertop of a kitchen, a table, etc., without the need for the height of the container to be greater than or equal to the length of the crank.
- said crank can be articulated through a point of its intermediate length, determining two parts, one of which could in certain circumstances tilt outwards and be located forming an angulation with respect to the other part, thereby reducing the length of said crank, which would facilitate its operation.
- Figure 1 shows a representation according to a lateral perspective of the can opener of the invention, in an inoperative arrangement, that is to say with the two arms in the open position, the length of the hand-operated crank being seen.
- Figure 2. It also shows a perspective view, in this case on the other side of the same can opener, in operative position, that is, with the two jaw arms closed.
- Figure 3. Shows a representation according to a lateral perspective of a can opener with both arms in the open position, equipped with a hand-operated lever.
- Figure 4. It also shows a perspective view of the previous can opener in which the lateral notch of lace can be seen.
- Figure 5. Shows a representation according to a perspective of a can opener in which an oscillating lower arm appears.
- FIGS 6 and 7 Show details of ratchets.
- Figure 8. Shows a detail of the traction of the can opener, in which the axle at whose ends it has a cogwheel and the crank respectively.
- Figure 9. Shows a detail of the tilt of the handle of the can opener.
- the can opener of the invention comprises two arms (1-2) related to each other through an articulation axis (3).
- the arm (1) is considered as the main one, while the arm (2) is considered as a swingarm, since this is the one that tilts with respect to the arm (1) through the referred axis (3).
- both arms (1-2) a jaw is determined that in an inoperative position, represented in figure 1, remains open, while in the operative position represented in figure 2 both arms (1-2) overlap.
- the swing arm (2) of noticeably shorter length than the main arm (1), has a ribbed configuration (4) in its confrontation with said main arm (1), the latter having a protuberance (5) determining in the closed or operative position a tongue and groove coupling between both parts or elements, which causes the tilting axis (3) not to be subjected to lateral forces.
- the tilting arm (2) is a carrier of the corresponding blade (6) that is applied to the container when the jaw closure formed by both arms (1) and (2) occurs.
- a flange or stop (7) as well as a gear wheel (8) is provided, the latter constituting the means of dragging the can opener over the perimeter of the container, when opening it , since the edge of such a container will be positioned between said flange (7) and the gearwheel (8).
- a steel flywheel washer (10) with the flange or stop (7) to avoid rubbing the can with the consequent wear of the material.
- the can opener includes, as one of the characteristics of more fundamental, a crank (9) mounted on the axis of the gearwheel (8), so that the rotation of the crank (9) will lead to the advance of the can opener over the perimeter of the container, and with it the cutting or sectioning of the cover by the blade (6), all based on the fact that the gear wheel (8) rotates supported on the container producing this rotation the advance of the can opener assembly on the container itself and therefore the cutting by the blade (6) of the corresponding cover.
- a crank (9) mounted on the axis of the gearwheel (8), so that the rotation of the crank (9) will lead to the advance of the can opener over the perimeter of the container, and with it the cutting or sectioning of the cover by the blade (6), all based on the fact that the gear wheel (8) rotates supported on the container producing this rotation the advance of the can opener assembly on the container itself and therefore the cutting by the blade (6) of the corresponding cover.
- a ratchet (11) is provided that allows the continuous towing or rotation of the gearwheel (8) without the need for complete rotation of such crank (9), since it will be enough to subject it to an alternative tilting movement.
- both the main arm (1) and the swing arm (2) have an ergonomic configuration, all in such a way that the special and ergonomic configuration of the main arm (1), which It acts in handle functions, provides easy and convenient operation for the user.
- a traction axis (13) is provided as shown in Figure 8, in which shows that at one end it still has the gearwheel (8) and on the other one a crank (14) on which the crank (20) tilts through the axis of rotation (15).
- grip knob (21) of the crank (20) can be of magnetic configuration, so that once the operation to which it is intended for can openers is carried out, it can adhere to the cut-off lid for lifting and separating the can in question.
- This magnetic gripper can also adhere in its folded position to the main body.
- the lever (20) can have a retaining element (16) such as a notch or ball with respect to the connecting rod (14), already in a working or resting situation.
- a retaining element (16) such as a notch or ball with respect to the connecting rod (14), already in a working or resting situation.
- crank (9) can optionally be determined by two parts articulated with each other, in correspondence with an intermediate point of the length of such a lever (9), which would make it possible for the end part to be arranged by forming an angulation with the part linked to the can opener body, and thus reduce the length of such a lever (9) to facilitate its handling or operation.
- the improved can opener as shown in figures 3 and 4, the protuberance (5) is housed on the side opposite to the set of cogwheel (8) and blade (6), in the hollow or notch (12) achieving the same effect as described in figures 1 and 2.
- crank or lever (9) can be located symmetrically in the same plane as the main body of the assembly as it appears in figure 5, so that the can opener can be operated with only one hand.
