  • the chain drives generally used at present consist of a single, closed-ring chain (Figure 1); the transmission of motion from the gearbox pinion (1) to the rear wheel hub crown (3) takes place by means of a steel chain (4) comprising a series of links connected in such a way as to form a single ring.

  • the new drive system can be applied either to motorcycles used for circulation on roads and to racing motorcycles and partially solves the problem represented by the lack of stability of the vehicle at the end of curves and after abrupt accelerations and brakings.
  • Another aim of the invention is the implementation of a system that should allow manufacturers to vary the position of the centre of gravity of the engine.
  • a further goal is that the motorcycle should have a more correct attitude, which results also in reduced wear of the tyre treads.
  • the chain drive system with two rings, as well as the pinions may have different sizes and shapes.
  • a variant may comprise one or more series of chains positioned in two rows in front of the second drive chain.
  • Another variant with bigger chains having a particular shape may feature a single ring between the gearbox pinion and the end of the swinging arm.

Abstract

La présente invention se rapporte à un système d'entraînement par chaîne comportant deux anneaux indépendants (6, 7) avec un élément de transmission intermédiaire à double pignon (2), un tel système permettant d'abaisser le moteur et par conséquent le centre de gravité du véhicule, ce qui accroît considérablement la stabilité du véhicule et permet d'obtenir une structure qui autorise également l'abaissement de la selle. Ce système d'entraînement est doté de deux anneaux à chaîne (6, 7), qui sont tels que le pignon (1) de la boite de vitesse transmet le mouvement à un autre double pignon (2) logé dans l'extrémité du bras oscillant (5) au moyen d'un galet libre, ledit double pignon transmettant à son tour le mouvement à une autre chaîne (7) positionnée à coté de la chaîne du petit anneau (6) et connectée à la couronne (3) du moyeu de la roue arrière (8). On obtient ainsi un entraînement direct avec deux anneaux à chaîne, qui sont tels que les deux chaînes peuvent être mises sous tension de manière constante. Ce nouveau système d'entraînement peut être mis en oeuvre à la fois sur des motocycles pour le transport sur routes et sur des motocycles de compétition et il résout partiellement le problème de perte de stabilité du véhicule en fin de courbes et après des accélérations et des freinages brutaux.
