Definitions

  • the invention relates to a document with a security element and a method for producing the document.
  • Value and security documents are subject to increased requirements with regard to their security against counterfeiting and the verifiability of their authenticity, and for this purpose they are equipped with security elements that are intended to protect them against counterfeiting and counterfeiting.
  • Usual security elements are, for example, watermarks and security threads in paper, printed images which are produced using special, for example fluorescent, printing inks or using special printing processes, such as intaglio printing.
  • so-called metallic effect paints have already been used, which in particular mimic the visual impression of a metal due to their specific gloss.
  • Imprints with such metallic effect inks for example with gold or silver inks, have the advantage that their typical gloss cannot be imitated with commercially available printers or photocopiers.
  • metallic effect colors are available on the market without restrictions and are therefore readily available, security elements that have metallic effect colors can still be easily adjusted.
  • the data carrier according to the invention is provided with a first imprint which is printed with a colored ink and is interrupted by negative contours. It is also provided with a second overprint, the printing surface of which is essentially continuous and uninterrupted.
  • the second print is printed with a metallic effect color.
  • This coherent surface with its characteristic color and gloss impression is clearly perceptible to the eye and striking.
  • the visual impression of this security element is further enhanced by the fact that the intensity and color tone of the security element are increased or influenced by printing a colored color under the metallic effect color.
  • the metallic effect paint may only be applied in such an amount or layer thickness that the second print is not opaque, but is still translucent.
  • the preferably finely structured negative contours in the colored ink print are then visible to the eye through the coherent metallic effect color layer.
  • the structuring of the chromatic color surface with negative contours not only increases the possibilities when designing the document, but also makes it difficult to imitate it.
  • the specific appearance of the negative contours that shimmer through the metallic effect color layer cannot be reproduced either with a single print or with color photocopiers. If the negative contours are executed as a fine line pattern, many attempts to reproduce fail due to the required resolution.
  • the guilloche-shaped Line patterns are particularly preferred because such structures are difficult to calculate and print and require particularly high resolution and line sharpness.
  • the negative contours for example the line width in the range of approximately 50 to 300 ⁇ m, they are just barely visible to the eye at normal viewing distances, while the resolution and sharpness of the contours of the printing implementation are already very demanding, which not everyone Require accessible printing techniques and appropriate specialist knowledge.
  • the first and second overprints are preferably of the same size and positioned in register with one another so that the entire surface printed with the metallic effect ink, with the exception of the deliberately omitted negative contours, is underlaid by a layer of colored ink and thus has a uniform, homogeneous appearance. Due to the precise registration of the first and second imprints, non-overlapping edge areas are avoided and, moreover, the requirements for the precision of the printing execution are increased. In order to avoid registration problems, it is fundamentally also possible to make the two prints in different sizes. For example, the first lower
  • the at least two-layer security element according to the invention can be produced inexpensively if both the first and the second imprint are produced using the same printing method. Production is particularly economical if the first and the second imprint are produced during a printing run. The application of both prints in one pass also makes it much easier to position the two layers of color precisely. For the prints In principle, all printing processes are suitable that are suitable for transferring the colors in the required layer thickness and resolution to the document to be printed. Flexo printing is an example. The offset process is particularly preferred because it is very economical and enables a very high resolution. Indirect letterpress printing is particularly preferred for long runs, since the printing plates have a particularly long service life and the process also delivers particularly good printing quality and high color brilliance.
  • Preferred metallic effect colors are those which have a gold, silver, bronze or copper tone, since their appearance is most familiar to the average owner or user of the documents.
  • gold and silver colors through the association with the expensive precious metals, an impression of intrinsic value is conveyed, which is particularly desirable for documents of value, such as banknotes.
  • the characteristic appearance of these colors here referred to as "metal effect” can be created, for example, by small and thin metal plates.
  • the finely comminuted, plate-shaped fragments of metal-coated polyester film for example under the brand name “Metalure®”, can be used " are known.
  • the attractiveness and conspicuity of the security element is increased if the gloss of the metallic effect color is increased.
  • a particularly simple way to increase the gloss is to smooth the surface of the document, at least in the area of the imprint of the metallic effect paint. Since security and value documents in particular are first provided with a background print, for example in offset printing is brought on, and then printed with the intaglio printing process, the substrate surface being smoothed due to the high contact pressure of the printing plate, it is particularly economical to carry out the smoothing of the metallic effect ink during intaglio printing.
  • Another option for obtaining particularly shiny security elements is to apply the security element to a plastic film. Because of their particularly smooth surface, a print with metallic effect paint on such substrate materials shows a pronounced gloss.
  • blind embossments which have a continuously modulated, three-dimensional relief are particularly attractive, appealing and difficult to imitate.
  • medals for example, the production of corresponding security elements can in turn be carried out particularly economically if the blind embossing is produced during the intaglio printing process, the negative corresponding to the relief being integrated into the non-ink-carrying part of an intaglio printing plate.
  • the color ink used for the first print can be a printing ink of any color, which should also include white, black, gray and any mixed colors. Certain combinations of metallic effect colors and colored colors are preferred, however, because these combinations result in particularly attractive, intensely colored and luminous security elements.
  • Gold and bronze tones are preferably combined with yellow, brown and red tones, while metallic effect colors are combined with a copper tone preferably combined with orange, red and brown tones.
  • colors with gray, blue and green hues are particularly suitable for the combination of metallic effect colors with silver tone.
  • the security element according to the invention can be applied directly to the document or prefabricated on a film element which is introduced into the document as a continuous thread, strip or individual element (patch) or applied to its surface. It is also possible to prefabricate the security element on a film that serves as a transfer film. The security element is transferred from the transfer film to the object to be secured and the transfer film is removed again after the transfer. With this procedure, the two prints on the transfer film can be arranged in reverse order. In the viewing direction of the security element, however, the metallic effect color layer is always above the layer of colored paint. Additional release, adhesive and / or protective layers can be added as required.
  • the colored and metallic effect colors can, for example, be printed on a narrow, transparent film strip made of plastic.
  • the negative contours that are left out in color printing can also reproduce, for example, finely structured symbols or text characters. If such a film strip is embedded in a document as a so-called "window security thread", the film strip lies on top of the window and is freely accessible to the eye. In these areas, the metallic gloss of the metallic effect paint, which is particularly pronounced on the smooth surface of the film, is good noticeable. In addition, the translucent negative contours can be perceived or checked on closer inspection.
