L'invention concerne une plaque bipolaire, destinée à être utilisée dans une pile à combustible, présentant des canaux et des nervures avec des contacts d'électrode, caractérisée en ce qu'il est prévu au moins deux canaux en forme de méandres et parallèles entre eux. Les nervures peuvent présenter des zones de porosité constante. Dans une pile à combustible comprenant une telle plaque bipolaire, l'eau de production, par exemple, l'eau, dans le cas d'une pile à combustible à basse température, qui se déplace de la partie anodique vers le compartiment cathodique, par électro-osmose, à travers la membrane, s'évacue très efficacement de la pile. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé permettant de faire fonctionner une pile à combustible en alimentant les canaux par des fluides de fonctionnement sous des pressions différentes. De ce fait, le canal de plus faible pression sert régulièrement de collecteur d'eau, ce qui permet d'accroître le rendement de la pile à combustible.
