  • the shape of the head or the periphery is in general not important and may include any rounded shapes, e.g. oval or circular, as well as any angular shapes e.g. triangular, quadrangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, etc.
  • the head should preferably have some kind of knot or recess e.g. one or more holes or grooves, which knot or recess fits into a tool e.g. a screwdriver or similar tool by use of which the fastener can be turned.

  • the length of the body should be specific, selected for the particular use. The thicker the insulating units are, the longer the body should be. In general, the length of the body should be sufficiently long so that the fastener can penetrate at least 0.5, preferably at least 1 cm into the thickness of the outermost insulating unit (the unit farthest from the head of the fastener) , and penetrate the one or more other inner most insulating unit(s) . In most situations it is preferred that the length of the body should be between 10 and 200 mm, more preferably between 20 and 100 mm. The length of the body is defined as the perpendicular distance between the first horizontal plane and a second horizontal plane parallel to the first horizontal plane and containing a tangent to the point of the body farthest from the first horizontal plane.
  • the second section is the first section in an angle between 45 and 135 degrees, preferably between 85 and 95 degrees, and more preferably around 90 degrees relative to the first section.
  • the second section of the body is connected to a protrusion from the first section of the body to provide an angle as described above between the first and the second section.
  • the protrusion of the second section from the first section provides the body with a total width extension of the body which should preferably be between 3 and 40 mm, more preferably between 10 and 20 mm.

Due to providing a fastener which is both cheap and easy to produce it is, however, preferred that the fastener is shaped as a bent nail.
  • the body may preferably have an angular or round cross- section i.e. be shaped as an angular or round rod e.g. being oval or circular, as well as any angular shapes e.g. triangular, quadrangular, pentagonal, and hexagonal, which rod preferably has a maximum diameter of between 0.5 and 5 mm.
  • the cross-section or the diameter of the body may preferably be substantially equal to the diameter in its first section and more preferably the second section may have a similar diameter throughout its length besides a tip portion, which tip portion comprises a cone-shaped tip.
  • the body and head may be made from similar or from distinct materials.
  • Preferred materials for both head and body include any metals, preferably steel and brass, and further the preferred materials include polymers, preferably polymers with a relatively high flexural rigidity, e.g. polystyrene, polycarbonate, polypropylene and polyamide.
  • the second section of the body may e.g. be coated with an expandable composition i.e. a composition which expands when subjected to heat, moisture, microwave or similar.

  • the units of insulating material may in principle be of any type which can be penetrated by the fastener particularly foam e.g. polyurethane foam and mineral wool e.g. rock, slag, glass and similar vitreous materials.

  • the units of insulating material may have any desired size.
  • the shape of the units of insulating material may also be as desired, but it is preferred that the surfaces of the units of insulating material which are supposed to face each other in the step of connection have shapes which correspond to each other to provide a tight connection.
  • the fastener (s) are turned e.g. at least 5 degrees, preferably at least 45 degrees and most preferably around 90 degrees.
  • the number of fasteners used connecting two or more units of insulating material to each other depends on the size of the units and the desired strength of the connection. The skilled person will by use of a few tests be able to find the optimal number of fasteners for a specific connection of units of insulating material.
  • the units to be connected are held together in the desired formation and the one or more fasteners are inserted into the units of material to thereby join the units of insulating material together.
  • the units of insulating material may be compressed during the fastening of the fasteners.
  • Another or additional way to obtain a highly tight fastening is to further add glue between the surfaces to be connected. The amount of glue can be much lower than when using glue alone. Also it is possible to use glue with less tack as the fastener will hold the units of insulating material together.
  • the fastener is inserted into and penetrates a first unit and optionally further units of insulating material designated as the innermost unit(s) of insulating material, and therefrom further inserted partly into an outermost unit of insulating material and finally turned at least 5 degrees.
  • the outermost unit of insulating material i.e. the unit of insulating material which is supposed to contain the second section of the body is in the form of an insulating material based on mineral wool.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un élément de fixation (22) pour assembler deux ou plusieurs unités de matériau isolant, l'une à l'autre. L'élément de fixation comprend une tête (21) et un corps (23) s'étendant à partir de sa tête. Ce corps présente une forme allongée comprenant une première section et une deuxième section, la première section étant raccordée à la tête. La tête peut également se composer du même matériau que celui de la première section et peut être formée dans le prolongement direct de la première section du corps. L'invention traite aussi d'un procédé pour assembler deux ou plusieurs unités de matériau d'isolation l'une à l'autre.
