Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de combiner des applications bande étroite avec un transport bande large grâce à l'implantation d'un commutateur hybride pouvant fonctionner comme un commutateur bande étroite, d'un commutateur bande large, et/ou d'une combinaison commutateur bande étroite/bande large. Le commutateur hybride peut être installé/activé au départ comme un commutateur bande étroite, de manière à fonctionner avec un réseau comprenant tous ou presque tous les commutateurs bande étroite. En fait, le commutateur hybride peut être utilisé dans sa totalité en tant que mécanisme de commutation bande large lorsque il fonctionne avec un réseau comprenant tous ou presque tous les commutateurs bande large. Dans un mode de réalisation intermédiaire, le commutateur hybride peut être utilisé en mode bande large ou bande étroite sur une base communication par communication, par exemple, en fonction des capacités du ou des noeud(s) à être utilisé(s) pour établir une communication donnée. le commutateur hybride peut comprendre à la fois des composants de commutation bande large (par exemple, ATM) et bande étroite (par exemple, STM).
