On connaît des véhicules automobiles comprenant un châssis, des pièces de carrosserie fixées au châssis et des projecteurs. Chaque projeteur comporte un boîtier et une glace rigidement fixée au boîtier. Le boîtier du projecteur est fixé au châssis du véhicule. II résulte de ce montage que les jeux et affleurements de la glace par rapport aux pièces de carrosserie adjacentes sont fonction d'une chaîne de cotes relativement longues englobant la glace, le boîtier, le châssis et la pièce de carrosserie. Sachant que chaque maillon de cette chaîne de cotes présente ses propres tolérances, les jeux de positionnement entre la glace et la pièce de carrosserie sont nécessairement très importants.
