  • the diametric magnet 20 has an arced north polarity 34 and an opposite arced south polarity 36 which are normally in alignment with the arcs 15 and 17 of the ferromagnetic elements 16 and 18, respectively, so that elements 16, 18 and their extensions 30, 32 are normally in a magnetized state when the extensions make contact with a metal plate 42 on the door jamb. This is because a magnetic field 38 forms a complete circuit from the (north) polar end 34 of the diametric magnet 20, through element 16, extension 30, metal plate 35, extension 32, to the (south) polar end 36 of the magnet 20.
  • a door handle 24 covers the spindle 22 and is fixed in position with a pin 25.
  • Tension spring 26 loops 28 around the door handle 24 connecting the ferromagnetic element 16 to the diametric magnet 20.
  • the diametric magnet 20 is rotated and changes the direction of the magnetic fields 40 and 42 because this is the shortest path from one pole (north) 34 to the other pole (south) 36.
  • Flat plate extensions 30 and 32 are therefore outside of the magnetic field and are no longer drawn to the metal plate 42.
  • the spring 26 forces the round magnet 20 and handle 24 to return to their original position, again enabling the magnetization of the extensions 30, 32 when contacting the metal plate 42 of the door jamb 44.
  • Figure 5 illustrates a lock 50 comprising a closure mechanism 10 according to this invention and also incorporating dead bolt 52 mechanism.
  • the rotation of the diametric magnet 20 was illustrated in the above figures with the aid of a tension spring 26. However, other means may be used to rotate the magnet 20 and change the magnetic field in order to magnetize and demagnetize the flat plates 30, 32.
  • the round diametric magnet 21 contains two arced (north) poles 62 and 64 and two opposite arced (south) poles 66 and 68 at 45° to each other.
  • the mechanism contains four ferromagnetic elements 71, 72, 73 and 74 with the elements 71 and 72 having extensions 31 and 33, respectively. Elements 73 and 74 are not connected to elements 71 and 72 nor to elements 31 and 33.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un mécanisme de fermeture à monter sur des portes ou fenêtres, de manière à maintenir ces portes et fenêtres fermées contre une plaque métallique d'huisserie. Ce mécanisme de fermeture comprend un logement réalisé dans un matériau ne pouvant être magnétisé, un aimant de diamètre rond monté dans le logement de manière à tourner autour de son centre, deux éléments ferromagnétiques montés fixement sur le logement, parallèlement l'un à l'autre, sur les côtés opposés de l'aimant diamétral et à proximité de celui-ci, ces éléments comprenant des extensions ferromagnétiques saillant au-delà du logement, et ces éléments ainsi que les extensions étant conçus pour être magnétisés et démagnétises par la rotation de l'aimant diamétral. En outre ce mécanisme comprend des moyens de commande de rotation de l'aimant diamétral, ainsi que des moyens de remise de cet aimant diamétral tourné, dans sa position originale.
