  • the chamber 5 including the flexible skirt 12, acts as a chip impact barrier, so that as high speed swarf issues from the machine tool 1, it impacts upon the inner surface of the chamber, reducing the momentum of the swarf and allowing it to be conveyed away through the pneumatic conveying nozzle 13.
  • the slit is therefore typically positioned on the trailing surface of the skirt (with respect to the direction of movement of the cutting tool 1) although it is possible to provide multiple slits in the skirt 12, typically equi-spaced around the circumference of the skirt.

  • Use of the apparatus prevents the swarf fouling the datum faces of the workpiece clamp; improving accuracy; improves the surface finish of cuts by preventing swarf re-entering the cutting zone; and reduces the cost of removing swarf, both in terms of capital cost and recurrent labour costs. Damage to the machine tools is also prevented by inhibiting the ingress of swarf.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un appareil destiné à recueillir des copeaux lors du fonctionnement d'une machine-outil telle qu'une fraiseuse verticale (1). Cet appareil comprend une chambre (5) entourant sensiblement ladite fraiseuse et un organe d'acheminement pneumatique pourvu d'une buse (13) conçue pour aspirer les copeaux à partir de cette chambre. Cette dernière est munie d'une jupe souple (12) comprenant au moins une partie distale présentant une forme généralement tronconique et se déformant au contact de la pièce à usiner (4), ce qui confère une étanchéité partielle à la chambre et améliore l'acheminement de copeaux à partir de la chambre sans risque de contact avec la machine-outil.
