Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a cigarette filter for allowing cigarette smoke to uniformly diffuse to the entire sectional area of the filter during inhalation so as to more easily remove harmful materials, such as nicotine or tar, included in cigarette smoke.
  • cigarettes habitually used as favorite consumables are cylindrical rolls of finely cut dried tobacco which generate a variety of toxic materials, such as nicotine and tar, harmful to the human body, during inhalation.
  • toxic materials such as nicotine and tar
  • harmful materials included in cigarette smoke are inhaled into the human body and thus greatly affect the body.
  • toxins are repeatedly sucked into the lungs and the bronchi, they are deposited in said lungs and may cause a variety of serious diseases, such as phthisis and lung cancer.
  • the toxins are known to be the cause of many diseases because the toxins absorbed to the mouth, tne nose, the bronchi and the gastric mucosa, accelerate a secretion of adrenaline, thus contracting blood vessels. Accordingly, a broad antismoking campaign is now underway. However, since tobacco smokers are addicted to nicotine, it is very difficult for smokers to quit smoking cigarettes.
  • the filters of cigarettes designed to filter harmful materials, such as nicotine and tar, are provided at one end of the cigarette.
  • Such filters are typically classified into several types as follows: That is, the conventional filters of the cigarettes are classified according to their structure into a single filter consisting of one integrated filter, a double filter formed by a linear arrangement of two filter segments, and a multiplex filter formed by the linear arrangement of a plurality of different kinds of filter segments.
  • the filters are also classified according to the material of the filters into a fiber filter, a chemical granule-laden filter, and a carbon granule-laden filter.
  • fiber filters allow hazardous materials included in the cigarette smoke to simply pass through their fibrous matrix, and thus a large effect cannot be expected.
  • fiber filters particularly those laden with carbon or chemical granules for removing nicotine and tar, have been most preferably and widely used as filters for cigarettes.
  • the fibrous material of the filter is oriented along the axis of the filter so as to be parallel to the flow current of the sucked smoke while smoking the cigarette.
  • the fibrous material of the fiber filter is parallel to the flow current of the sucked smoke while smoking the cigarette, the smoke is hydrodynamically concentrated to the portion around the central axis of the filter. Therefore, the suction force of the smoker's lungs while smoking a cigarette most strongly acts along the central axis of the cylindrical fiber filter, thus forcing the toxic substances, such as nicotine and tar, to be concentrated and deposited in the portion around said central axis of the filter.
  • the nicotine and tar are concentrated and deposited in the portion around the central axis of the filter while smoking a cigarette as described above, the filter is reduced in its filtering function and cannot accomplish its designed filtering function.
  • silica gel has a large perforation diameter, nicotine or tar is effectively adsorbed but harmful materials in gas phases are not collected within the micro perforations and thus to pass through a filter, whereby the adsorption rate for harmful gaseous material is less than desired. Also, since silica gel itself is hydrophilic and thus adsorbs moisture in the tobacco smoke during inhalation, the smoker feels a sensation of dryness. Hence, these methods have not been used in recent years. Alternatively, there have recently been developed cigarette filters which are added with materials providing a deodorization function and an aromatic property. For instance, Korean Patent Laid-Open No.
  • Korean Patent Laid-Open No. 95- 24708 refers to a cigarette filter containing green tea, wherein various green-tea powders are added to a tobacco filter to remove odors in the mouth.
  • 97-11847 refers to a bamboo-salt cigarette filter, in which bamboo-salt particles (0.1-0.5 mm) 0.1-0.5 g are used to form a layer of bamboo-salt particles, whereby harmful materials in the tobacco smoke are removed and taste of tobacco becomes mild.
