- Conventional security systems comprise a data carrier, for example in the form and size of a check card, which contains a sensor which determines biometric characteristics of the operator in order to ensure that the operator is authorized to use the data carrier.
- the data carrier enables access to a functional unit in security systems.
- the data carrier for banking applications contains a fingerprint sensor and exchanges data with an automated teller machine to enable the operator to access his personal account.
- a data carrier with a fingerprint sensor is described in US Pat. No. 4,582,985. After the operator places his finger on the sensor, the fingerprint is measured in order to generate a corresponding data bit stream. This is compared with reference information stored on the chip card. If there is sufficient agreement, the data carrier is released by a signal path between see disk and reader is unlocked. The authenticity of the user is determined entirely within the chip card and communicated to the reader accordingly.

Abstract
La présente invention concerne un système de sécurité qui utilise des cartes à puces (1) comprenant un détecteur biométrique (10), tel qu'un détecteur d'empreinte digitale. Des informations biométriques détectées par ledit détecteur (10), telles que l'emplacement de particularités de l'empreinte digitale, sont comparées à des données de référence enregistrées. Lesdites données de référence sont divisées en une première partie et en une seconde partie, qui ne sont enregistrées que sur le support de données (1) ou que dans le dispositif de lecture (2). La sécurité des données vis-à-vis d'une lecture non autorisée des informations de référence et la sécurité vis-à-vis d'une intervention sur le processus d'authentification courant sont ainsi augmentées.
