Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de lithium de très haute pureté, qui consiste à effectuer la réduction thermique de composés d'oxydes de lithium sous vide au moyen d'aluminium. Selon l'invention, on prépare d'abord un mélange de composés d'oxydes de lithium puis on y ajoute un oxyde et/ou un hydroxyde d'aluminium avec un rapport molaire de l'oxyde de lithium et de l'oxyde d'aluminium supérieur à un et allant jusqu'à cinq. On utilise de préférence des composés d'oxydes de lithium de type Li2O, nAl203 mH2O fCO2 où n= 5, m= 11 et f= 1. Le dispositif pour mettre en oeuvre le procédé de l'invention comprend un four (1) contenant au moins une cornue (2) qui comporte une zone de réduction (3) et une zone de condensation (4). Le diamètre de la cornue (2) dans la zone de condensation (4) est supérieur à son diamètre dans la zone de réduction (3), son orifice de sortie (5) étant fait dans la partie inférieure de la zone de condensation (4) et communiquant avec un creuset disposé dans une zone froide.
