Abstract

The present invention relates to isolated nucleic acid which encodes mammalian latheo protein (e.g., human). The present invention also relates to an isolated mammalian latheo protein (e.g., human). Also encompassed by the present invention are nucleic acid constructs, host cells, fusion proteins, antibodies and antisense nucleic acid. The present invention also relates to a method of producing a mammalian latheo protein. Also encompassed by the present invention are methods of identifying an agent that modulates (enhances, inhibits) interaction of latheo with a member of the origin recognition complex (e.g., ORC2, ORC4, ORC5, ORC6), a method of identifying an agent that modulates cell proliferation which results from latheo activity, a method of identifying sequence variants of latheo, a method of identifying an agent for use in the treatment of cancer, a method of identifying an agent to treat defects in synaptic function associated with a defective latheo and a method of identifying an agent to treat a cognitive dysfunction associated with latheo. Agents identified by the methods are also encompassed. The present invention also relates to methods of treating cancer, a defect in synaptic plasticity associated with a defective latheo and cognitive dysfunction associated with a defective latheo.
