Definitions
- the present invention relates to a system for spreading a fluid on the external surface of the windshield of a vehicle to melt the ice that may be on it or to defog it externally.
- This suitable liquid may be, for example, hot water or pure antifreeze.
- the drawback is that the driver may not always have enough of it to completely remove the ice.
- the driver may not always have enough of it to completely remove the ice.
- the ice is not immediately removed due to the lack of hot water, and depending on the outside temperature, it is possible that, in turn, the added water will cool until it freezes.
- the system according to the invention for spreading a fluid on the external surface of the windshield of a vehicle is characterized by the fact that said system is independent of any other hydraulic system of the vehicle, and by the fact that the fluid that extends over the vehicle
- the external surface of the windshield of the vehicle is a fluid that provides energy, that is, that performs a thermodynamic action.
- the fluid that extends over the windshield exits the top of the windshield in the form of a fan, which allows the fluid to spread over the entire outer surface of the windshield more easily.
- the fluid exits through several nozzles connected in parallel.
- the energy-supplying fluid is heated to a temperature between 40 ° and 60 °, preferably between 45 ° and 55 °.
- the fluid is heated by a resistor, which comprises a copper sheath.
- the circuit through which the fluid passes comprises a helical coil-like conduit surrounding the resistance.
- the conduit is arranged helically wound around the resistor.
- a special way of constructing the mentioned conduit is from a sheet arranged around the resistance.
- the system according to the invention comprises a reversible and self-aspirating pump, so that it can propel the fluid to the windshield through the system's own ducts and empty said fluid conduits to avoid its freezing.
- the mentioned conduits are tubular profiles of synthetic rubber with an inner diameter of 2 millimeters.
- the system of the invention comprises a first conduit that conducts the fluid to a first pair of nozzles and a second conduit that conducts the fluid to a second pair of nozzles.
- the system of the invention comprises a valve that alternately closes and opens the feed to the first and second conduits, so that the fluid alternately exits through the first pair or through the second pair of nozzles.
- the system of the invention comprises an automatic control device that drives the pump that drives the fluid to the windshield.
- the resistance, the pump, the valve and the automatic control device are housed inside an enclosure, said resistance being hermetically isolated from the rest of the elements arranged inside said enclosure.
- the resistance has a general cylindrical shape with an outer copper sheath and is located inside a cylinder.
- this cylinder is 100 millimeters long - 5 - and 16 millimeters in diameter.
- the resistance is constituted by a sheet having a thickness of 0.5 millimeters.
- the automatic control device is connected to the vehicle's battery, automatically receiving the operating signal through a momentary illumination of the high beam at the same time the engine is started.
- the resistance heats the fluid very quickly, approximately thirty seconds, therefore the windshield can be discharged or defrosted in an almost instantaneous way.
- the fluid that provides energy is heated and / or antifreeze water.
- the water and / or antifreeze that is supplied to the system is stored in the windshield washer reservoir of the vehicle or, alternatively, in a reservoir of the system itself.
- Figure 1 is a scheme of the system of the invention
- Figure 2 is a schematic plan view of the enclosed enclosure inside which the pump, the resistance, the automatic control device and the valve are arranged;
- Figure 3 is a plan view of a double nozzle
- Figure 4 is a side elevation view of a double nozzle, the same being fixed to the windshield.
- Figures 1 and 2 show schematically the components that make up the system of the invention.
- the fluid usually water heated to a temperature of about 50 °, is spread over the windshield 2 of a car by two pairs of nozzles 3.
- the fluid 1 is water from the liquid reservoir 8 wiper washer .
- a pump 7 is arranged, which drives the water from the reservoir 8 into the enclosure 9.
- the water then passes around a resistor 4, where its heating is carried out.
- a helical conduit (not shown) is arranged as a coil, said conduit being formed helical from a sheet arranged around the resistance 4 as a thread.
- the resistor 4 has a cylindrical shape with an outer copper sheath, is located inside a cylinder 100 millimeters long and 16 millimeters in diameter, and is hermetically isolated from the remaining components.
- a valve 5 which comprises two outlet ducts 13. Each of these ducts 13 is directed to a pair of nozzles 3 connected in parallel.
- the valve 5 alternately closes and opens the feed to the ducts 13, so that the heated water comes out alternately through each pair of nozzles 3.
- the outlet ducts 13 mentioned are preferably tubular profiles of synthetic rubber with an inner diameter of 2 millimeters.
- control device 6 which acts on the other components arranged inside said enclosure 9, governing its operation automatically.
- the control device 6 is connected to the battery 10 of the vehicle, receiving the automatic operation signal through a momentary illumination of the high beam 12 at the same time the engine is started.
- the electrical circuit of the system of the invention is connected to ground 11. - 8 -
- the heated water 1 exits from the top of the windshield
- FIG 4 it can be seen how the pairs of nozzles 3 are fixed to the windshield 2.
- a plate 15 provided with an adhesive sheet 16 is fixed, said plate 15 comprising a housing 14 integral thereto.
- a sleeve 17 is provided inside said housing 14, a sleeve 17 is provided in pairs of nozzles 3.
- Each pair of nozzles 3 comprises two sleeves 17 to make the coupling more stable.
- the sleeves 17 are arranged inside the housings 14, so that they can rotate, but cannot accidentally come out of them, which allows to regulate the inclination of the nozzles 3 so that the water spreads in the desired way. Once this inclination is determined, the sleeves 17 are finally fixed in their housings 14 by means of two fixing screws (not shown).
- system of the invention may comprise a reservoir of its own with the appropriate fluid, which may be water or antifreeze. - 9 -
- the driver To drive the system of the invention, the driver must momentarily activate (burst signal) the high beam 12 when starting the engine. At that time, the water from the reservoir 8, driven by the pump 7, will enter the interior of the enclosure 9 where it will be heated by the resistance 4. Once heated, the water will be propelled to the pairs of nozzles 3 alternately by the valve 5. The drive of all these components is commanded by the control device 6. The driver must accelerate smoothly until 1,400 rpm is reached, maintaining it at this rate during the time the heating lasts. Immediately, the heated water will flow out of the nozzles 3 and spread over the windshield 2, defrosting the ice accumulated on it or defrosting it. Once the water exit is finished, the driver must activate the windshield wiper to remove the remaining water on the windshield 2. The estimated time for all hot water to spread on the windshield from the moment the driver starts the engine and the road light is about 30 seconds.
- the pump 7 is reversible and self-aspirating, automatically emptying the water from the ducts at the end of the process and thus preventing freezing.
