Definitions
- the present invention relates to curbs and how to make them reflective for better visibility at night and in particular a method of continuous installation of a reflective curb and the means of implementation.
- the installation of the borders can be carried out either by assembling prefabricated border elements in the factory or in situ.
- the installation of prefabricated elements is unfortunately expensive, slow execution and causes lumbar problems to the workers in charge of the installation.
- patent FR 1441.061 describes a method of encrusting the balls by spraying under pressure. relatively large. This process is unfortunately ineffective, whether carried out in situ or in the factory.
- the concrete is delivered by “mixer” trucks and has a variable plasticity for each truck that arrives at the site.
- the duration of unloading and the progress of the work are also factors which modify the plasticity of concrete.
- This variable plasticity should then be determined in each case so as to regulate the pressure used for the projection of the balls. It is the same when the border elements are manufactured in the factory insofar as the plasticity of the concrete is different from one mixer to another and changes between the period of pouring, demolding and projection of the balls.
- the object of the invention is therefore to implement a process for the continuous installation of reflective curbs which is rapid, which can constantly adapt to the plasticity of the concrete used and which does not cause difficulties for the people responsible for installing the borders.
- the object of the invention is a process for the continuous installation of a curb of a roadway with a reflective surface made up of glass beads, consisting in pouring the material which must constitute the curb at the location where it is to be laid. the latter, molding the border to give it its final shape, pouring the balls on at least one of the faces of the border, and embedding these balls in the material of the border by application of a pressure which is a function of the plasticity of the material constituting the border.
- Another object of the invention is a machine for continuously implementing the above method.
- FIG. 1 represents a road edge element according to the present invention
- FIG. 2 represents a cross section of the border element illustrated in FIG. 1
- FIG. 3 is a diagrammatic representation of the machine implementing the method for continuously laying the curb according to the invention
- FIG. 4 is a sectional view of the edge of the roadway and the means for encrusting the balls in the faces of the roadway edge.
- a road edge 10 produced by the method according to the invention comprises on the vertical face 12, the inclined face 14 and the horizontal face 16, spherical balls 18 embedded in the material 20 constituting the edge 10 , usually concrete. It should be noted that, although the balls are preferably encrusted, they could be fixed to the surface of the reflective faces of the border by any other means without departing from the scope of the invention.
- the spherical balls 18 are preferably juxtaposed so as to cover the maximum surface area of the concrete 20.
- the balls 18 are preferably transparent glass balls but may be made of any other transparent material such as plastic material. They are microscopic, with a diameter generally between 100 microns and 2 mm. Due to the refraction of the light by the balls as well as the reflection of the light due to the interface between the balls and the concrete, the light of public lighting or headlights of car is thoughtful and provides effective visibility of curbs at night.
- This machine moves from left to right and allows continuous laying of the curb.
- a concrete inlet hopper 30 At the head is a concrete inlet hopper 30.
- the concrete is then compacted by means of an endless screw 34, which makes it possible to give good homogeneity to the concrete.
- the border is molded in its final form by the sliding formwork mold 36.
- a small hopper 38 allows the arrival of the microbeads 40 on the faces of the border where the microbeads must be embedded.
- the rear of the hopper is extended by sets of two metal parts, a first part 42 parallel to the border and a second part 44 formed of planes inclined relative to the surface of the border where the microbeads will be embedded.
- the inclination of the second part 44 is determined by a screw (or more) 46 bearing on the first fixed part 42.
- the pressure exerted by the inclined part 44 on the balls on the surface of the molded concrete cause their encrustation in the concrete.
- the screw 46 allows the adjustment of the pressure exerted on the balls and the angle of inclination of the elements of the second part 44 relative to the first part 42. This adjustment is a function of the consistency and the plasticity of the concrete. If the humidity of the concrete is high (wet concrete) the pressure should be low. Conversely, with a low humidity level (dry concrete), the necessary pressure will have to be greater. Depending on this setting, the tilt angle will vary between 2 and 10 °.
- the number of elements of the second part 44 varies depending on the number of faces on which the beads are incrusted.
- three faces of the border give rise to inlaying, and it is therefore necessary to provide three inclined elements for the second part 44 as well as a first part 42 having a shape corresponding to that of the border. but a little larger in height and width, the two parts being integral at the front and made integral by one or more screws 46 at the rear.
- a machine according to the invention has a weight of approximately 350 kg. It has cylinders allowing height adjustment and precise correction of the slope. It allows the production of all types of borders with a maximum dimension of 50cm high and 60cm wide, and therefore of all standardized borders (more than 50 mold references). This machine thus makes it possible to produce bituminous concrete beads, colored borders, deactivated or grooved. The possibility of interchanging the extrusion side, to the right or to the left, allows connection to existing structures. Note that it is the compaction of the concrete by means of the worm which allows the machine to move at a speed between 1 and 6m per minute.
