Abstract

Cette invention se rapporte au domaine de la production de sorbants granulés et, notamment, à la granulation de graphite obtenu par dégradation thermique ainsi qu'à celle de suie et d'autres matériaux à base de carbone se présentant sous forme de flocons. Cette invention concerne plus particulièrement un procédé de granulation d'un sorbant à base de carbone, lequel procédé consiste tout d'abord à maintenir le sorbant en contact avec de la paraffine fondue jusqu'à ce que ledit sorbant soit saturé en paraffine. La température est ensuite abaissée en dessous du seuil de cristallisation de la paraffine avant de mélanger mécaniquement le sorbant à un agent de liaison. On procède ensuite à la formation des granulés qui sont préalablement chauffés à une température de 200 à 300 °C. Les granulés sont maintenus à cette température jusqu'à évaporation complète de la paraffine, puis soumis à un processus de cuisson. Le rapport quantitatif en volume entre le graphite obtenu par dégradation thermique et la paraffine varie de 1:0,5 à 1:0,2. Le chauffage préalable des granulés se fait dans une atmosphère de gaz inerte, de préférence dans de l'azote.
