Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for cleaning and extracting waxy product accumulated in a ear canal, comprising a rod for gripping the device by a user, elongated around an axis and provided with at least one end portion projecting radially from the rod. It finds a particularly important, although not exclusive, application in the field of hygiene and aesthetics making it possible to avoid the accumulation of earwax.
- Cerumen is a substance of soft consistency, of acidic PH, waxy appearance which, when it ages and it oxidizes in air, changes color and loses its fluidity. It can then block the ear canals and generate deafness and / or loss of balance. Traditionally, we have therefore sought to eliminate it and this is how cotton swabs appeared. These however have drawbacks. Indeed, the cotton swab tends to repel earwax and cause the appearance of plug in the ear canal.
- Document FR-A-2 606 883 describes, for example, a device for the complete removal of cerumen by means of an extractor element provided with deformable claws. Such a device nevertheless risks pushing the plug back to the bottom of the duct rather than extracting it.
- Such a device is expensive, uncomfortable to use and does not take into account the different lengths and widths of ear canals.
- the present invention aims to provide a device for cleaning and extracting waxy product accumulated in an ear canal, meeting better than those previously known the requirements of practice, in particular in that it allows a non-aggressive extraction taking into account the different types of ears, in that it avoids repelling earwax during introduction into the canal, without risking irritating and / or injuring the ear canal.
- the proposed device is easy and pleasant to use, has a low manufacturing cost and is therefore disposable, which allows good hygiene to be observed while preventing the development of microbes.
- earwax is a substance of soft consistency and that, by its acidic PH and its waxy nature, it also protects the skin covering the ear canal.
- the wax film therefore not only constitutes a chemical barrier, but also a real foreign body trap. It is therefore interesting to remove the excess part, but to leave a thin film which will allow natural protection as indicated above.
- the invention proposes in particular a device for cleaning and extracting waxy products accumulated in a ear canal, comprising a gripping rod by a user, elongated around an axis and provided with at least one end portion projecting radially from said rod, the end portion being in the form of a cage of substantially oval longitudinal section comprising at least three curved branches distributed angularly and connected to each other by their respective ends to form at at least three closed loops attached by their vertices, and suitable for scraping the auditory canal during a rotary movement of the rod carried out by the user, characterized in that said end portion has a vertex for connecting the branches together by a surface portion between 1 and 3 mm 2 , said branches being thin and of polygonal cross section, said end portion being flexible on the side of the crown, so that it can deform elastically radially under normal pressure manual of a user, and rigid in the part closest to the rod.
- small thickness is meant a thickness in the tangential direction to the cage of dimension less than on the order of 2 mm, and more particularly less than 1 mm, for example 0.5 mm.
- the top of the ovoid cage thus presents an openwork cap on three, four or more sectors, the branches being connected together by a portion of small area, the small thickness of the branches and the portion of small surface to avoid pushing back the earwax towards the eardrum like the classic cotton swab.
- flexible end portion on the side of the top is meant a cage capable of deforming elastically radially under the normal manual pressure of a user, for example from 10 to 50%, for example of a value of 20%, of the transverse dimension (that is to say in the radial direction) of the cage in its largest section, under the effect of a longitudinal force, that is to say in the direction of the rod, between of the order of 0.1 and of the order of 0.5 Newton, for example of the order of 0.2 Newton.
- the polygonal cross section of the branches allows in particular a spatula effect.
- the rod has two identical end portions, each situated at one end of the rod; the end portion has four branches distributed regularly, constituting four closed handles attached by their top; the end portion comprises two sets of two opposite branches, the two opposite branches of each set being respectively located one on one side and the other on the other side of an axial plane corresponding to said set and passing through the center of top of the cage, the respective axial planes of said sets being perpendicular to each other; the branches are covered with a coating product that is soft to the touch; the coating product is a fibrous or cottony material of small thickness; the branches are of parallelepipedic cross section varying gradually from a value between around 4 mm 2 and around 0.5 mm 2 on the side of the rod, to a value between around 1 mm 2 and of the order of 0.1 mm 2 on the side of the top of the cage; the branches have, on the side of their apex, a cross section less than about 0.25 mm 2 ;
- a rod capable of assuming an arcuate shape, in bending, with an arrow for example of the order of l / 10th to l / 5th of the length of the rod under the normal manual pressure of a user .
- the rod comprises a central part gripping by the fingers of the user, extending on either side of the center of symmetry of said rod, gently sloping and respectively, towards a protruding protrusion of revolution, suitable for forming a stop for the user's fingers.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic view of the device according to the embodiment of the invention more particularly described here, used in a human ear canal shown in section.
- - Figure 2 is a side view of the device of Figure 1.
- - Figure 2bis is a sectional view of an embodiment of the rod of Figure 2, formed from several pieces.
- - Figure 3 is a large-scale view of the end portion of Figure 2, uncoated.
- - Figures 4 and 5 are sectional views along planes IV-IV and V-V of Figure 3.
- FIG. 6 is a sectional view, in principle, of a mold for obtaining the end portion of Figure 3 at the section IV-IV.
- - Figure 7 shows another embodiment of the end portion of the device according to the invention.
- FIG. 8 is a top view along arrow VIII of the end portion of FIG. 7.
- Figure 9 is a schematic sectional view of a mold for obtaining the head of Figure 7, at the section IX-IX.
- FIG. 1 shows a device 1 for cleaning and extracting waxy product 2 accumulated in a ear canal 3.
- the device 1 comprises a flexible gripping rod 4, elongated around an axis 5 of revolution, and provided with two end portions 6 projecting radially relative to the rod 4.
- FIG. 2 shows the device 1 provided with end portions 6, each end portion 6 form an ovoid cage or of substantially oval section comprising four identical branches 7, curves, angularly distributed, namely at 90 ° from one another, and connected together on each side of their ends, namely on the side 8 of the rod 4, and on the side 9 opposite to the rod.
- the curved branches thus form four closed loops attached by their apex having a small surface, for example 1.5 mm 2 , which make it possible to scrape the ear canal.
- the ends 12 are connectable by fitting into recesses 13 made at the ends 11 of the central part 10.
- the rod and its end portions will be made in one piece , for example polypropylene, in an injection mold.
- a coating product 14 constituted by a flocking, for example made of viscose fiber (cellulose).
- FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 show a particularly advantageous embodiment according to the invention, of an end portion 6, provided with branches 7.
- the cage of this end portion comprises two sets 15 and 16 identical opposite branches 17 and 18, the opposite branches 17 of a first set, and 18 of a second set being respectively located on either side of an axial plane 19, 20 passing through the center 21 of the top of the cage (see figure 4).
- the respective axial planes 19 and 20 are perpendicular.
- FIG. 6 is a section view of a mold principle allowing the branches of the end portion of FIG. 3 to be obtained by a single demolding movement.
- Such a particularly advantageous mold due to the arrangement of the branches relative to one another allows simple, rapid and inexpensive manufacture of the device according to the invention.
- FIG. 7 shows another embodiment of an end portion 22 according to the invention, provided with four identical branches 23, arranged regularly and angularly opposite one another as shown in the top view of Figure 8, the two opposite branches of the same game here being located in the same plane.
- junction top 24 between the ends of the branches 23 has a very reduced, while being of sufficient size to ensure a solid attachment between ends.
- Such an arrangement avoids repelling earwax during the introduction of the end portion into the ear canal.
- FIG. 9 shows the sectional mold making it possible to obtain the branches of the end portion of FIG. 7.
- the opposite branches are therefore arranged in the same plane, the two planes of the two sets of branches being perpendicular.
- the section of the branches is rectangular and is between 1 mm 2 in their largest dimension on the side of the rod, and 0.2 mm 2 in their smallest dimension at the top of the cage.
- the thickness e in the tangential direction is constant for example of 0.4 mm, and the width 1 in the radial direction, varies for its part from 2 mm to 0.5 mm.
- FIGS. 10 and 11 show two other embodiments of end portions according to the invention.
- Figure 10 shows an embodiment where the branches have a fold 30, the top 31 of which is located towards the inside of the cage.
- the fold is located in the upper third of the cage on the side of the vertex 32, and corresponds practically to the width of half of the head.
- FIG. 11 shows another embodiment where the head 33 is flattened relative to the rest of the end portion, a fold 34 being moreover provided similarly to fold 30 of FIG. 10.
- Other embodiments sections of the branches can obviously be provided.
- FIG. 12 has thus shown a mold in section at the branches making it possible to obtain another arrangement of branches, two (or four) of the branches 40 having an isosceles trapezoidal section, the small base directed outwards.
- the other two branches 41 may have a rectangular section.
- branches 42 these can be formed from a mold 43 by injection of the type shown in Figure 13.
- the three branches are distributed angularly forming between them angles 44 of 120 °.
- the devices 50 After forming the rods and their end portion in one piece by injection, for example, of polypropylene, into molds of the type described above, the devices 50 (see FIG. 14) are brought onto a conveyor belt 51 below an apparatus 52 for injecting flocking at the end portions 53 by means of injection nozzles 54, before being evacuated.
- a flexible device is therefore obtained, in particular at the level of the rod, which allows great ease of use, and nevertheless allows, thanks to a certain initial rigidity, significant precision in terms of the movements of the head of the device to from user actions on the device body.
- the rod can conform to the duct and allow an optimized and gentle pressurization during scraping, the cross section of the projecting part preferably being between half and 3/4 of the average ear canal of adult or child, in order to obtain good mobility of the device.
- the cross section of the projecting part can also be of the width of the auditory canal, or even greater, and conform to the latter when the cage of the device penetrates into the canal because of the flexibility of said cage.
- the earwax in the first half of the duct can be removed without completely removing the protective layer.
- the soft and possibly spongy nature of the material coated on the end portions makes it possible to partially absorb the water after a shower or a swimming pool.
- the arrangement of the branches allows self-centering of the end portion in the ear canal, the size of the cage being for example a little less than that of the ear canal. More precisely, the section at the top will be as thin as possible, then as you get closer to the stem, the thickness of the branches will increase while allowing flexibility of the head, which will gradually grow to allow some pressure on the walls of the duct.
- the sections of the branches, and more precisely the radial dimensions of the branches continue to grow at constant thickness until the handle of the rod or the rigidity is greater, which allows a solid fixing of the end portion on said rod.
- the present invention is not limited to the embodiments more particularly described. On the contrary, it embraces all variants and in particular those where the device comprises more than four branches.
