  • the substantially U-shaped brackets, the one fixed at the free ends and the one fixed intermediate the free ends and the fixed ends of the elongate support members can be arranged at an angle to the vertical to enable the apparatus to be used on inclined slopes such as stairs or the like.
  • an elongate handrail with an elongate slot is adapted to be attached to the free ends of the elongate support members by means of a flanged bolt means received within the slot.
  • the slot is T-shaped to receive the flange which is also preferably T-shaped.
  • a panel means is adapted to be received within a further elongate slot in the handrail, whereby the panel means forms a barrier for the guardrail.

  • the apparatus 10 includes a number of elongate support members 13 which support a guardrail 14.
  • the support members 13 are preferably tubular metal members which have a U-shaped bracket 15 located at their top or free end 16.
  • the U-shaped bracket 15 is thus adapted to receive the guardrail 14 therein.
  • the guardrail 14 can be metal, timber or any suitable material which can be formed from a number of connected pieces.
  • the guardrail 14 can be fixed to the U-shaped brackets 15 by bolts or any other suitable method or they can just rest within the U-shaped brackets 15.
  • the apparatus 10 further includes a number of fixing brackets 17 which are fixed to the current floor level 1 1 and to which a corresponding one of the elongate support members 13 are attached.
  • the fixing bracket 17 is a right angle bracket with a flat fixing portion 18 being fixed to the horizontal floor level 11 by means of screws, nails masonry anchors or any other suitable fixing means to concrete or timber, if the level 11 has the formwork 12 in place.
  • the vertical portion 19 of the angle fixing bracket 17 has the elongate support member 13 attached thereto by bolting, clamping or by sitting it into a sleeve or the like which is welded to the vertical portion.
  • the vertical portion 19 can be fixed to the edge or kickboard 20 by means of screws, nails masonry anchors or any other suitable fixing means to concrete or timber.
  • the apparatus 10 includes a number of fixing brackets 22, each comprises a sleeve 23 with a perpendicular flange 24 extending therefrom.
  • the flange 24 has a lip 25 extending therefrom with the flange 24 and lip 25 being adapted to fit over one or more courses of bricks 26 with the sleeve 23 being adapted to be received within a wall cavity.
  • the elongate support member 13 is placed into the sleeve and can be fixed therein by a pin 27 connected by a chain 28.
  • the pin 27 fits in holes 29 and in this particular embodiment there are five to give different heights of the guardrail 14.
  • the apparatus 10 of the present invention provides a system of safety on a building undergoing construction which is simple to install and which is easy to move and re-install as well as providing the safety required for those workers on the building site.
  • the apparatus 10 is the same as the previously described embodiments except that both the embodiments include an intermediate U-shaped bracket 15a which is fixed to the elongate support members 13 by a clamping or pin arrangement.
  • the intermediate U-shaped brackets 15a are used to hold a further guardrail 14 which is preferably parallel to the guardrail supported by the U-shaped bracket 15.
  • the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 also shows that the height of the elongate support members 13 can be adjusted by an adjustable pin or clamp arrangement.
  • the apparatus 10 is seen to be applicable to inclined surfaces or stairs 31 or the like. It is seen that the U-shaped brackets 15 and 15a are pivotable and can be fixed in an adjustable position so that the guardrail can be inclined to the horizontal.
  • the elongate support members 13 support a handrail 30 which is a telescopic aluminium extruded handrail which is supported on the support members 13.
  • the handrail 30 has an elongate slot 31 formed along its length such that a bolt 32 or the like is received by a flange 33 within the slot 31.
  • the bolt 32 or the like is fixed to the support members 13 in holes 34 on the support members 13.
  • Another slot 35 is located in the handrail 30 such that a panel 36 (in this case a mesh panel) is received therein to form a barrier means as illustrated in Fig. 11.

  • Fig. 11 In the embodiment illustrated there is one handrail 30 located at the top end of the support members 13 and two handrails 30 located at the floor level. This preferred arrangement provides a kickboard arrangement for extra safety.
  • the apparatus 10 as illustrated in Figs. 6 to 9 have the brackets corresponding to the brackets 17, 22 of the previously described embodiments.
  • the support members and brackets can be formed in any arrangement which allows the apparatus to be applied to a building during its construction.

Abstract

Dispositif (10), tel qu'un garde-corps, conçu pour être utilisé sur un bâtiment pendant sa construction. Ce garde-corps (10) comprend une pluralité d'éléments de support (13) conçus chacun pour être fixés à un bâtiment en construction. Chaque élément de cette pluralité d'éléments (13) possède des extrémités libres placées sous le niveau du plancher en cours de construction du bâtiment, et au moins un élément (30) de garde-corps est conçu pour être accouplé aux extrémités libres des éléments de support (13), ce qui constitue une barrière sensiblement horizontale. Les éléments de support (13) peuvent loger à l'intérieur d'une console fixée à la construction. On peut adapter d'autres éléments parallèles (30) de garde-corps. Ces éléments (30) peuvent présenter une fente allongée (31) servant à recevoir des boulons à bride (32) fixés aux éléments de support (13). On peut loger des panneaux (36) dans des fentes allongées (35) des éléments (30) de garde-corps.
