- FIG. 1 shows four units 22a, 22b, 22c and 22d, of which one unit 22a is connected to the central unit 11 and another unit 22b is connected to the memory 12. This is indicated by double arrows. These diagnostic units perform the test and coordination functions during the switch-on phase of the system and can still be used during operation, even if only to ensure an orderly switch-off. The double arrows symbolize that data is exchanged in both directions.

- each device can also be connected to the units of the diagnostic system, the installation location deciding on the set flag. If the bus system is also monitored for a reset, for example, the detection of the reset acts as an enable signal. Subsequent addressing of a device sets and permits the flag assigned to the slot thus an assignment of the logical address to the actual installation location.
