Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a ventilator for use with an air duct in a building element, such as a ventilation slot in a window frame, said air duct hav ⁇ ing an outer opening and an inner opening, the ventilator having a movable valve member for closing and opening the air duct.
  • a large number of different slot-type ventilators for closing and opening a usually horizontal ventilation slot in a window frame are known.
  • the ventilation slot can be kept open in various ways and to different degrees, in addition to the complete closing of the ventilation slot. It should be possible to open the ventilator in such a manner that an upward and/or downward air flow at an infinitely variable flow rate is obtained, and that an air flow concentrated on one or the other side of the slot is obtained. None of the known slot-type ventilators can be considered to satisfy all these requirements.
  • the object of the present invention therefore is to provide a simple ventilator of such a design that all these requirements can be satisfied.
  • a ventilator which is of the type described by way of introduction and which is characterised in that the ventilator has a border element, which is adapted to be mounted on the building element in such a manner that it abuts against this and surrounds the inner opening of the air duct, that the valve member consists of a cover portion, which is movably mounted on the border element to be moved relative to this between a closed position, in which it abuts against the border element and covers this for closing the air duct, and a plurality of diffe ⁇ rent opening positions, in which it keeps the air duct open in various ways and to different degrees, and that the cover portion has two mounting means which are spaced from each other and intended for the movable mounting of the cover portion on the border element, each mounting means comprising a projection, which projects from the cover portion in the direction of the border element and has two pin holes or pivot pins, the pin holes or pivot pins of the two projections having a common centre axis extending in parallel with the cover
  • the cover portion can be moved to and kept in any desired opening position between the closed position and the maximum opening position.
  • the slot- type ventilator is used in a horizontal ventilation slot
  • an upward or downward air flow at an infinitely variable flow rate can thus be obtained.
  • the cover portion being turnable about a turning axis parallel to the cover portion, relative to the clamp and thus relative to the border element between different turning positions, which are defined by the grooves in the curved surface of the projections, different opening degrees can be achieved for the upwardly directed air flow and the downwardly directed air flow.
  • the clamps being elastically yield ⁇ able, they can be displaced to different degrees, i.e. in such a manner that the cover portion is not necessarily moved in parallel, but can be inclined so as to achieve different opening degrees at the two sides of the slot.
  • the clamp extends through the guiding means and has at least one external bead, which abuts against the guiding means in the outer posi ⁇ tion of the clamp and thus defines this position.
  • FIG. 1 is a side view and shows a border element included in an inventive ventilator designed as a slot- type ventilator, and mounted on a window frame;
  • Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the slot-type ventila ⁇ tor, partly in section, the ventilator being shown in a completely closed position;
  • Fig. 3 corresponds to Fig. 2 but shows the slot-type ventilator in a maximally open position;
  • Fig. 4 corresponds to Figs 2 and 3 but shows the slot-type ventilator open on its left side and closed and on its right side;
  • Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of a coupling means in the slot-type ventilator in section along line V-V in Fig. 2;
  • Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view and shows the coupling means in section along line VI-VI in Fig. 3;
  • Fig. 7 shows the coupling means in section along line VII-VII in Fig. 6;
  • Fig. 8 corresponds to Fig. 6 but shows a cover por ⁇ tion included in the slot-type ventilator and being in a turning position, in which the ventilator is open upwards only;
  • Fig. 9 corresponds to Fig. 6 but shows the cover portion in a turning position, in which the ventilator is open downwards only.
  • the inventive slot-type ventilator shown in the drawings is intended for use with a slot-shaped air duct in a building element and is shown in Figs 1-4 mounted over a horizontal ventilation slot 1 in a window frame 2.
  • the slot-type ventilator comprises an elongate border element 3 of plastic material, and a valve member in the form of an elongate cover portion 4 of plastic material, which is movably mounted on the border element 3 with the aid of a mounting means 5 at each end of the ventilator, which will be described in more detail below.
  • the border element 3 is mounted on the window frame 2 by means of screws 6 such that it abuts against the window frame and surrounds the inner opening of the ven ⁇ tilation slot 1.
  • the border element 3 has at each end a guiding means 7, which is included in the respective mounting means 5 and which forms a through guiding groove 8, which, when the border element 3 is mounted on the window frame 2, is horizontally directed and opens into the ventilation slot 1, as shown in Fig. 1. If the ven ⁇ tilation slot 1 has a shorter extent in the lateral di ⁇ rection and does not reach under the guiding means 7 in the fashion as shown in Fig. 1, a separate recess (not shown) can be formed in the window frame 2 just in front of the guiding groove so as to receive part of the mount ⁇ ing means 5, as will be described in more detail below.
  • the cover portion 4 is, as mentioned above, mov ⁇ ably mounted on the border element 3 with the aid of the mounting means 5.
  • the mounting means 5 are designed in such a manner that the cover portion 4 is infinitely variably displaceable relative to the border element 3 between a closed position, which is shown in Fig. 2 and in which the cover portion abuts against the border ele ⁇ ment and covers this so as to close the ventilation slot 1, and a maximum opening position, which is shown in Fig. 3 and in which the cover portion 4 extends in pa ⁇ rallel with the border element 3 at a maximum distance therefrom.
  • the mounting means 5 retain the cover portion 4 in every intermediate opening position.
  • the mounting means 5 also permit a stepwise turning of the cover portion 4 about a turning axis which extends in parallel with the longitudinal axis thereof between two end positions, which are shown in Figs 8 and 9, in which the cover por ⁇ tion 4 is shown in its maximum opening position, i.e. in a maximally extracted position.
  • the lower slot 10 is closed, and in the end position shown in Fig. 9, the upper slot 9 is closed.
  • the width of the two slots 9 and 10 thus is also dependent on the turning position of the cover portion 4.
  • the mounting means 5 also permit, owing to their elasticity, that the cover portion 4 is inclined to give the upper and the lower slot 9, 10, respectively, different width at the right and the left side (see Fig. 4, where the slots 9 and 10 are closed at the right side and fully open at the left side).
  • the two mounting means 5 are identical, and there ⁇ fore only one of them will be described with reference to Figs 5-9.
  • the mounting means 5 comprises a projection 11, which projects perpendicular from the cover portion 4 in the direction of the border element 3 and which is inte ⁇ grally formed with the cover portion and has the form of a sleeve of rectangular cross-section.
  • the projection 11 has a through bore 12, whose centre axis extends in parallel with the longitudinal axis of the cover portion 4 and which forms a pin hole 12 in each of the two oppo- site longitudinal walls 13 of the projection 11.
  • the pro ⁇ jection 11 has at its free end, i.e. its end facing the border element 3, a curved surface 14, which essentially constitutes a part of the circumferential surface of a straight circular cylinder, whose centre axis coincides with the centre axis of the bore 12.
  • Five axially orient ⁇ ed grooves 15 are formed in the curved surface 14 and are uniformly distributed along this surface.
  • the mounting means 5 further comprises a substan ⁇ tially U-shaped, elastically yieldable clamp 16 of plas- tic material.
  • the clamp 16 is of the same cross-section as the guiding groove 8 in the guiding means 7 included in the mounting means 5 and arranged on the border ele ⁇ ment 3 and is inserted with a tight fit into the guiding groove 8.
  • the two legs 17 of the clamp 16 have in the vicinity of their free end, i.e. their end facing the cover portion 4, two pivot pins 18 which project towards each other and are arranged just in front of each other, said pivot pins being each turnably mounted in a pin hole 12 of the projection 11 so as to permit turning of the projection 11 and thus of the cover portion 4 relative to the clamp 16 and, thus, relative to the border element 3.
  • the two legs 17 also have two shoulders 19 which project towards each other and are positioned just in front of each other and which engage by snap action in one of the grooves 15 in the curved surface 14 of the projection 11. Which of the grooves 15 that is engaged by shoulders 19 of course depends on the mutual turning position of the projection 11 and the clamp 16.
  • the projection 11 is turnable about the pivot pins 18 between two end posi- tions (Figs 8 and 9) and can also take a central position (Fig. 6), in which the cover portion 4 is parallel with the border element 3, and two intermediate positions, which are determined by the grooves formed in the curved surface 14 and positioned between the outer grooves and the central groove.
  • the pin hole/pivot pin connection 12, 18 between the projection 11 and the clamp 16 can, of course, also be replaced by a corresponding connection, in which the pin holes are formed in the clamp 16 and the pivot pins are provided on the projection 11.
  • the clamp 16 has, in the vicinity of its web por- tion 20, an external bead 21 on each leg 17.
  • the clamp 16 extends through the guiding means 7 and is, with a tight fit, infinitely variably displaceable therein between a fully inserted position (Fig. 5), in which the cover por ⁇ tion 4 is in its closed position, and an outer position (Figs 6 and 7), in which the cover portion 4 is in its maximum opening position and in which the two beads 21 abut against the guiding means 7 (see Fig. 7).
  • the web portion 20 of the clamp 16 extends into the ventilation slot 1. If the ventilation slot 1 does not extend under the guiding means 7, the web portion 20 extends into a recess (not shown) in the window frame 2, said recess being formed just in front of the guiding groove 8.
