Abstract

A material consisting of a compressed mass containing vegetable matter incorporated into a solidified binder such as gelatin. A dye may be added to the mass. The rigidity and hardness of the material vary depending on the density of vegetable matter in the mass, whereby the material may be used to make a wide variety of articles. As it is biodegradable, this novel material is environmentally friendly.

Description

MATERIAU BIODEGRADABLE POUR LA FABRICATION D'ARTICLES DIVERS BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF VARIOUS ITEMS
The present invention relates to a biodegradable material for multiple applications, in particular for realizing packaging and packaging products for various articles.
To condition devices and articles, materials such as frigolite, styropor, etc. are commonly used. These materials have the great disadvantage of posing the problem of their recycling.
The invention provides a new material which, in addition to a rigidity comparable to that of frigolite, has the advantage of being biodegradable and therefore does not require any recycling problem. The material according to the invention consists of a compressed mass containing plants incorporated in a solidified binder. Its manufacture is defined in the claims.
This new material has a rigidity and a hardness which vary according to the density of plants incorporated in the mass. Its mechanical strength allows it to be used for the manufacture of articles as numerous as they are varied: packaging and conditioning products where it can advantageously replace frigolite, styropor, etc., articles made by molding or injection where it can replace with advantage of plastics or wood. Being biodegradable, this natural material contributes to the preservation of the environment. A binder is poured into boiling water, for example edible gelatin such as 240 Bloo 8 Mesh gelatin. In the binder are then poured plants cut into sections, flakes or the like, or ground into particles. The plants are for example grass, hay, steamed plants or vegetables, etc. In the binder can be added a dye and in the mixture can optionally be blown a gas in order to produce an expansion of volume there. The binder gives the mixture its volume and the plants give it rigidity and hardness.
The paste thus obtained is poured hot into a mold and compressed. After cooling, the product exhibits a rigidity and a hardness which depend on the density of plants in the mass.
Parmi les nombreuses utilisations possibles, citons par exemple :The material according to the invention can be used for the manufacture of numerous articles. It can in particular be used for all kinds of packaging and packaging products where it can advantageously replace the frigolite, styropor and other products commonly used for this use. It can also replace plastic materials in the manufacture of various parts by molding or injection. Finally, this material can still usefully replace wood for making molded articles. These articles are not only biodegradable, but also the use of the material according to the invention in place of wood makes it possible to preserve the forests, which further adds to respect for the environment. Any use or application of the material according to the invention has the enormous advantage of eliminating any problem of recovery and recycling. Among the many possible uses, let us quote for example:
1) confection d'emballages divers,1) making various packaging,
2) fabrication de pièces moulées ou injectées ne devant pas répondre à des normes de température, d'humidité ou de pression, par exemple plateaux, coffrets, jouets, etc.2) manufacture of molded or injected parts that do not have to meet temperature, humidity or pressure standards, for example trays, boxes, toys, etc.
3) substitut au carton,3) substitute for cardboard,
4) fabrication de cercueils bon marché, 5) fabrication de supports, palettes, etc.4) manufacture of inexpensive coffins, 5) manufacture of supports, pallets, etc.
The articles made using the biodegradable material according to the invention can be finished by spraying with a layer of silicone, for example.
