Definitions
- the present invention relates to a hoist or lift for lifting a disabled or handicapped person and comprising an upright, an outrigger connected to the upright at a first end portion thereof so as to be pivotal in relation to the upright about a first pivot axis, person supporting means to be connected to a second end portion of the outrigger opposite to the first end portion and first moving means for controlled pivotal movement of the outrigger in relation to the upright about the first pivot axis.
- the supporting means connected to the second free end portion of the outrigger may be passed under the arms of a sitting person and by operating the first moving means so as to swing the outrigger upwardly the sitting person is lifted to a standing position.
- the lift is usually provided with wheels or rollers so that it may easily be moved together with a person being supported by the lift in a standing position.
- the supporting means may be used for supporting a sitting person such that he or she remains in a sitting position when lifted by the lift.
- the present invention provides a hoist or lift of the type described above which may also be used for moving a person from a lying position to a sitting position.
- the hoist or lift according to the invention is characterized in an upper length of the upright comprising said first end portion being connected to a lower length of the upright so as to be pivotal in relation thereto about a second pivot axis, which extends transversely to the first pivot axis, and in second moving means for controlled pivotal movement of the upper length in relation to the lower length of the upright about the second pivot axis.
- the hoist or lift according to the invention may be placed at the bed side such that the second free end of the outrigger is positioned above the lying person.
- the upper length of the upright may be moved into a position in which it extends transversely to the lower length of the upright, i.e. substantially parallel to the lying person.
