- This invention relates to a mounting assembly for a plurality of bolt working devices such as bolt tensioners, torque wrenches or hydraulic supplies for pre-located hydraulic nuts and bolts, and more particularly to such an assembly for mounting the devices on a length of flanged pipe to enable the bolts of the associated pipe flange to be tightened.
- Joints between pipe flanges are commonly achieved using a plurality of nuts and bolts extending through the flanges and angularly spaced around the flanges.
- a mounting assembly for locating a plurality of bolt working devices on a length of flanged pipe through the flange of which extend a plurality of bolts, the assembly comprising a segmented ring carrying said plurality of devices and including at least two segments pivotal relative to one another between open positions enabling location of the ring onto the pipe and closed positions surrounding said pipe, characterised by at least one key on one of the pipe and the inner surface of the ring, and one or more axially extending keyways in the other of the pipe and the inner surface of the ring for co-operation with the or each key to locate the ring angularly relative to the pipe and whereby the devices are accurately axially aligned with their associated bolts on the pipe flange.

- the assembly indicated generally at 10 is provided to enable tensioning of the bolts 6 and subsequent tightening of the nuts 8 to effect a secure joint between the two lengths of pipe (as well as loosening of such a joint) .
- the carrier ring 20 is located on the sleeve 12 as follows. With the segments 26,28 in their open positions, the ring 20 is lowered over the pipe 2 until the segment 24 seats on the sleeve 12 with the cut-outs 32 in the segments 24 seating on the associated axial keys 14.
- a plurality, for example four, of axially- extending, double-acting hydraulic rams 34 are provided on the carrier ring 20 to enable controlled axial movement of the ring 20 along the sleeve 12 towards and away from the bolts 6, the continued co-operation between the keys 14 and the keyways in the ring 20 during said movement maintaining the accurate alignment of the devices 22 with the bolts 6.
- movement of the carrier ring 20 towards the bolts 6 is effected by extension of the rams 34 to abut the end flange 16 on the sleeve 12 whereby the carrier ring 20 moves along the sleeve 12 until the devices 22 engage with their associated bolts.
- the invention has application to joints of other configurations, while the devices 22 may be other than tensioning devices, for example torque wrenches, or, in the case of pre-located hydraulic bolts 6 or hydraulic nuts 4, the associated hydraulic supplies for powering said nuts or bolts.
- the sleeve 12 may be eliminated and the keys 14, as well as the flange 16 and lugs 18, may be welded directly to the pipe 2, while there may be other than three segments to the ring 20 and other than four hydraulic rams 34.
- a key provided on the inner surface of the ring 20 to co-operate with any one of a plurality of axial keyways in the sleeve 12, for example one keyway for each bolt 6, the key being movable between a normal operative position extending radially inwardly of the inner surface of the ring, and a displaced position within the confines of the ring, in which latter position the ring can be rotated relative to the sleeve.

Abstract
Un ensemble de montage est destiné à positionner plusieurs dispositifs à boulons (22) sur un segment de tuyaux (2) comportant une collerette (4) au travers de laquelle passent plusieurs boulons (6). Cet ensemble comprend un anneau (20) à segments portant plusieurs dispositifs (22) et comprenant au moins deux segments (24, 26, 28) pouvant pivoter entre eux entre des positions ouvertes, permettant de placer l'anneau (20) sur le tuyau (2) et des positions fermées entourant ce tuyau (2), et il comprend au moins une clavette (14) disposée sur le tuyau (2) ou la surface interne de l'anneau (20) et un ou plusieurs logements de clavette disposés dans le sens axial sur l'autre de ces deux éléments pour coopérer avec la clavette (14) pour positionner l'anneau (20) sur le tuyau (2) selon le bon angle. Les dispositifs (22) sont ainsi précisément alignés dans l'axe de leurs boulons (6) associés, sur la collerette (4) du tuyau.
