Abstract

An improved release device with a housing including a sealed lower body (1) and a cover (2) attached thereto with a flexible membrane (3) inserted therebetween, as well as an attachment portion (8) secured to the cover. Unlike known devices based on this principle, said device is testable and may be reset and reused at will. The essential features of the release device are that the body (1) is combined with a shaped member (6) that defines a central housing (4) for a spring (5), supports the membrane (3) and is secured to a cap (7) projecting into the cover (2), elements (6) and (7) being slidable about a lower portion (1A) of the body (1) by means of the membrane (3); and that in the normal closed position said attachment portion (8) is releasably engaged between said cap (7) and a recess (9) in said cover (2), whereby the safety equipment is released when the water pressure is sufficiently high. Said release device is particularly useful in emergency locator beacons, life rafts, etc., and more generally in any device designed for use under conditions involving pressure changes.

Description

The present invention relates to the field of safety equipment installed on ships, airplanes and the like and intended to come into action when they are poured into water. It relates more particularly to the design and production of a hydrostatic width 5 for any safety equipment usable during the accidents mentioned above.
On sait que, réglementairement, les navires et autres engins de certaines dimensions , susceptibles d'immersion totale accidentelle 10 dans l'eau, doivent être équipés de dispositifs de sécurité comprenant notamment des balises de détresse, des radeaux, etcIt is known that, by regulation, ships and other vehicles of certain dimensions, liable to accidental total immersion in water, must be equipped with safety devices including in particular distress beacons, rafts, etc.
On a proposé et/ou commercialisé depuis longtemps des dispositifs de largage, à fonctionnement manuel ou automatique, quiDropping devices, manual or automatic, which have been proposed and / or marketed for a long time, which
Lorsque le dispositif est immergé dans l'eau, une pression hydrostatique s'exerce sur la membrane, ce qui15 are generally constituted by a rigid hollow case provided with a flexible member or membrane, sensitive to hydrostatic pressure, connected to the lock for holding the safety equipment and associated with a spring of determined force. When the device is immersed in water, a hydrostatic pressure is exerted on the membrane, which

For example, it has been recommended the use, as a deformable member and instead of a membrane, of a flexible pocket of the air chamber type making it possible to avoid certain disadvantages of the membrane and to eliminate the use of the spring (Patent European No. 0296219). However, in addition to a fairly delicate and more costly manufacturing process, such a release device poses a certain number of problems. In particular, for a given level of immersion, the forces due to the pressure exerted on the pocket or inner tube are distributed over the entire surface thereof, and not

La force résultante exercée pour actionner le système de libération de l'équipement de sécurité ne correspond donc pas à la force maximale (c'est à dire optimale) souhaitée, alors que cela est le cas lors de l'usage d'une simple membrane souple.SUBSTITUTE SHEET RULE 26) only in the trigger axis of the device. The resulting force exerted to activate the safety equipment release system therefore does not correspond to the maximum (ie optimal) force desired, whereas this is the case when using a simple membrane flexible.
According to another embodiment, marketed under the name or denomination HAMAR, we return to the housing system with membrane associated with a spring, the means for releasing the safety equipment consisting of a knife actuated by spring and intended to cut the holding device (European patent application No. 0198 805).
Un tel système présente divers inconvénients parmi lesquels il faut citer: - une oxydation importante des différents organes métalliques,Such a system has various drawbacks, including: - significant oxidation of the various metallic organs,
- un couteau qui présente des défauts de coupe s'il est en acier inoxydable et qui s'oxyde s'il n'y est pas, ne pouvant plus alors remplir sa fonction,- a knife which has cutting faults if it is made of stainless steel and which oxidizes if it is not there, which can no longer fulfill its function,
Cela revient donc à avoir un dispositif jetable et non testable ne répondant pas pleinement aux normes de sécurité souhaitées.but the major drawback concerns the fact that it only works once, resetting the cutting system being impossible. This therefore amounts to having a disposable and non-testable device that does not fully meet the desired safety standards.
The invention overcomes the various disadvantages of known devices including those mentioned above. Its purpose is to propose a device for releasing safety equipment based on the known principle of a housing with a sealed lower body and a cover, with flexible membrane associated with a spring and means for attaching safety equipment, but presenting the big advantage of being resettable and reusable at leisure. In addition, this device, of structure simple, has all the guarantees and can be tested, unlike most systems marketed to date.
According to its essential characteristics, the new width according to the invention is provided with a fastener for safety equipment and comprises a sealed lower body on which is fixed a cover crossed by a notch, a flexible membrane which comes to be interposed between said body and said cover and being capable of undergoing an inward bending of the body under the effect of pressure exerted from the outside, and a cap integral with said membrane, characterized in that the notch is provided with oriented shoulders towards the inside of the notch and being in a position such as vis-à-vis the upper part of the hat that the fitting of the fastener implies the crossing of the notch by the lower ends of said fastener, their passage beyond the shoulders of the notch as well as the thrust of the hat towards the interior of the body, in order to be received between the side walls of the hat and the walls of the notch and being blocked there as soon as the hat returns to the normal position, the exertion of pressure from the outside causing the said membrane to bend inward, this bending being accompanied by the displacement of the bonnet towards inside the body and a spacing of the upper part of the hat from the shoulders of the notch, spacing which allows the blocking of the lower ends of the fastener to cease, their passage through the notch beyond the shoulders and the release of said attachment.
Other characteristics and details will appear during the following description of a non-limiting embodiment, illustrated by the appended drawings which represent:
As shown in the figures, the width essentially comprises: a lower body 1 to which is secured, by bolts or screws 15, a cover 2 with the interposition of a flexible membrane 3, as well as a fastening means 8 for equipment of security. The body 1 is associated with a shaped part 6 to form a central housing 4 in which a spring 5 is positioned. The element 6 is secured, by screw or bolt 16, to a cap 7 projecting from the cover 2, the elements 6 and 7 trapping the membrane at its center 3. Serving as support for the membrane 3, the shaped part 6 plays the role of slide. As will be seen below, the elements 6 and 7 move towards the inside of the lower body 1, by sliding, respectively for the element 6 around the central foot 1A of the lower body 1, and for the element 7 in the grooves 2A of the cover 2, when the width is immersed in water (Fig2.).
As is apparent from the figures, the attachment means 8 is here a single piece comprising a head 10, with passage 11 for connection of the holding member (not shown) of the safety equipment to its support , and legs 12 which have a lower end of cylindrical shape 13. The engagement of the attachment means 8 in the closed position (Fig1.), that is to say the blocking of the ends 13 of the legs 12 between the side walls of the cap 7 and the shoulders 14, is carried out in the following ways: crossing the notch 9 by the cylindrical ends 13, bringing them together by pressing on the upper faces of the shoulders 14 and pushing them on the cap 7 towards the inside of the body 1, pushed which causes the compression of the spring 5 via the shaped part 6, their passage beyond the shoulders 14, then the return to the normal position of blocking of the cap 7 between the lower ends 13 legs 12. The release of the attachment means 8 thus releasing the safety equipment, occurs when the device is immersed in water. In fact, the pressure of the water introduced into the notch 9 causes the flexible membrane 3 to flex, which causes the cap 7 to move towards the inside of the body 1, therefore a separation of the upper part of the cap 7 from the shoulders 14, spacing which allows the ends 13 to pass through the notch beyond the shoulders 14.
Afin de faciliter l'engagement et le dégagement des extrémités cylindriques 13, un chanfrein 17 est avantageusement prévu sur les arêtes supérieures du chapeau 7.For this purpose the legs 12 of the fastening means 8 have a certain elasticity in order to allow the approximation of their cylindrical ends 13 and thus authorize the passage of said ends beyond the shoulders 14 of the notch 9 of the cover 2. In order to facilitate the engagement and disengagement of the cylindrical ends 13, a chamfer 17 is advantageously provided on the upper edges of the cap 7.
Such a simple design width can be produced, under good economic conditions, in various suitable materials, for example, for the majority of parts, made of plastic.
In practice, the various studies and experiments carried out have shown that the combination of the criteria associated with the support spring 5, the flexible membrane 3 (materials, diameter, elasticity, density, ...), and the retraction stroke of the cap 7, ensure precisely the desired drop depth. In addition, the extreme simplicity of the safety equipment release system ensures complete reliability of the trigger, whatever the depth chosen and the surrounding climatic conditions.
