Definitions
- This invention concerns a fence structure and in particular, a fence structure that is suitable for noise attenuation while also, due to its adaptability, being suitable for any use that requires a fence that is aesthetically pleasant in appearance.
- fences differs depending on the purpose. Noise attenuation fences often use massive, concrete structures. On the other hand, fences surrounding a yard are mainly made of wood in different forms. Often it is only industrial fences that use metal, especially sheet metal in different forms.
- the drawback in many cases is that the structures are monotonous in appearance and, because there are only a few basic types, the structures are reminiscent of each other. Furthermore, in concrete structures, for example, casting is done in a certain mould and there is no variety in surface patterns per ten metres of noise attenuation fence. In addition, the fences are seldom able to accommodate the individual bumps and hollows of the ground. As a result, the fence and ground do not fit together perfectly.
- the purpose of this invention is to achieve a fence structure that allows very versatile adaptability, especially in its external appearance, with one and the same basic structure.
- a fence according to the invention can be easily adapted at the erection stage to fit the contours of the ground. With a fence structure according to the invention it is also
- CONFIRMATION COPV possible to achieve good noise attenuation properties with a simple, but not too heavy structure.
- Figure 1 shows a certain, well-regarded embodiment of the invention viewed from directly in front
- Figure 2 shows the same structure viewed from the side
- Figure 3 shows a cross-section A-A of figure 1 ;
- Figure 4 shows an embodiment of a certain alternative.
- a unit consists of a desired number of tubular parts 2, which are attached side by side.
- a cross-bar or cross-tube 3 is attached at the upper and lower ends of each unit in order to attach the unit to posts in a suitable manner or to facilitate such attachment.
- this may be done by inserting the ends of the tubes or bars 3 into notches in the posts so that they are fixed, and thus the tubes or bars 3 keep the units in place.
- Figure 1 shows how a fence structure according to the invention gives expressiveness to the fence. This occurs by removing part of the casing of the tubular parts 2 that form the fence. For example, about half of the outer casing of each tubular part, along a certain length of the tube, may be removed. The removed parts are marked by the reference number 4. The casing part is taken away from various lengths of different tubes, producing a vivid pattern.
- One idea would be to create a certain number of different tubes 2, each with an "opened” section of different length, and then to form these tubes into a fence in such a way as to obtain a desired pattern, created by the removed parts of the tubes.
- a casing part which has been removed from one side of a tube 2 may be attached to the back of the same tube or a different tube, so as to form a pattern simply and easily on the other side of the fence.
- Figures 1 and 2 show that the casing part has been removed with a curved cut at each end of the removed part. This is not necessary, for it is possible to use any kind of cut whatsoever, as long as it achieves the desired result. Moreover, the removed part does not need to be cut in a straight line or in the middle of the tube. Here, again, discression may be used in achieving a desired final result.
- the point at which the casing is cut from the tubes 2 at the top of the tubes is always at the same level as the adjacent cut. This need not be the case, since the top ends of the cuts may just as easily be made to form a desired pattern.
- the above-described fence structure according to the invention is made from tubes, from which part of the casing has been removed. It is possible, however, to reach a solution similar to the above in a different way. Such a way is illustrated in Figure 4. Specifically, by starting from a sheet-like material 5, shaped so that it forms adjacent, split tube parts, and by adding a corresponding part 6 to the front side of this sheet-like material, only to those parts which it is intended to supplement, i.e. to form a tube, it is possible to achieve the final result illustrated in Figure 1.
- tubes in a fence structure according to the invention and in the embodiment shown in Figure 1 may be completely or nearly completely cut open with part of the casing removed, and in the embodiment shown in Figure 4 some of the channels formed in the sheet 5 may be left completely or nearly completely open, without a corresponding part.
- the fence structure can function as a good sound attenuator. It is obvious that sound waves that are reflected in different directions from the curved surfaces are effective in breaking the wave front.
- the surfaces in different parts of the fence are convex and concave, which is believed to have a favourable effect on the breaking of the sound wave front.
- the growing of plants in the tubes, as described above, further improves the sound attenuation properties, so that in addition to expressiveness it is possible to achieve excellent sound attenuation.
- a fence according to the invention is easy to build. If the desire arises some day to change the appearance of the fence, and especially if it concerns a unit fence, the change can be made simply by lifting the units from their places and replacing them with units with the required appearance.
- the probable building material of the tubes is especially metal tube which is protected against corrosion in the desired manner, such as by the use of zinc, plastic surfacing, and so on.
- metal tube which is protected against corrosion in the desired manner, such as by the use of zinc, plastic surfacing, and so on.
- plastic tubes it is also possible to use completely plastic tubes and in particular a plastic material which is sufficiently reasonable in price may be recycled plastic.
