  • Example A a comparative non-inventive control composition similar to Example 1 except that the formulation of Example A contained no sodium chloride and no menthyl lactate. The formulation was found to have an intolerably harsh thymol taste.
  • Example 2 milder overall, not as harsh and astringent but pleasant combination with the tastes of sweetness and saltiness being tolerable.
  • Example B a comparative, non-inventive control composition similar to Example 2 but lacking sodium chloride and menthyl lactate. The formulation was found to be very harsh, almost not tolerable, in fact, irritating. METHOD OF TASTE TESTING
  • the test participants were asked to determine blindlythe taste of thymol in the examples (i.e. Ex. 1 and 2) in comparison with the corresponding negative control examples (i.e. Ex. A and B) .
  • the perceived thymol taste was rated on a scale of 1-10, where 1 was equivalent to more and 10 to less thymol taste while 5 signified no difference in thymol taste.
  • the results are shown in Table II, indicating clear improvements of masking thymol taste in the two embodiments represented by Example 1 and Example 2.

Abstract

Une composition aqueuse ou un produit final contenant du thymol comprend du chlorure de sodium et du lactate de menthyle destinés à masquer l'odeur médicinale désagréable du thymol, une huile essentielle aux propriétés antimicrobiennes. L'invention concerne notamment un mode de réalisation dans lequel le rapport entre le chlorure de sodium et le thymol est d'environ 7,8 pour 1 et le rapport entre le lactate de menthyle et le thymol est d'environ 0,3 pour 1.
