Abstract

L'invention concerne un commutateur de paquets tamponné en sortie présentant une transmission de paquets prioritaire, ainsi qu'un système souple de gestion de tampons. Le commutateur est constitué par un réseau de tri à l'entrée, un réseau d'acheminement non-bloquant à la sortie, et des modules multiples de réseaux de remplissage de colonnes comportant des éléments de mémorisation branchés en série, de façon à créer un nouveau système de gestion de tampons. Chaque module attribue un tampon à chaque porte de sortie, à l'exception du dernier module dans lequel la mémorisation est partagée par toutes les sorties. La combinaison d'un tamponnage spécialisé et partagé permet d'obtenir des rendements élevées sur une plage importante d'états de trafic. Le commutateur est extensible dans le sens où on peut améliorer son rendement en lui ajoutant simplement davantage de modules. La conception du commutateur est répartie et comporte des capacités d'autoacheminement, de façon à pouvoir fonctionner à des débits de données très élevés. Le commutateur de paquets tamponné en sortie peut s'utiliser pour mettre en application une commande centralisée d'un autre commutateur de paquets présentant une vitesse surpérieure mais une fonctionnalité identique.
