Definitions

  • a fish-hook with a plurality of individual hooks and a method for the manufacture of the same.
  • the invention concerns a fish-hook comprising a plurality of interconnected individual hooks with a shank and a pointed bend, where the shanks extend parallel to and close to one another, the ends of the shanks face the same way, and the planes in which the respective individual hooks principally extend are mutually angularily displaced.
  • the invention further concerns a method for the manufacture of a fish-hook of this type.
  • hooks There are also some materials which it is desirable to use for hooks which cannot be hard soldered or at least only to a certain extent, thereby making it impossible to use them for such hooks.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a fish-hook of the type described in the introduction and which is not encumbered by the aforementioned disadvantages.
  • Fig. 1 is a side view of a fish-hook with three individual hooks.
  • Fig. 2 is a sketch of the hook illustrated in fig. 1 viewed in the direction of arrow A.
  • Fig. 3 is a sketch of an individual hook.
  • Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating a second embodiment of the invention.
  • the fish-hook according to the invention comprises three individual hooks 2 which in a known per se manner have a shank 3 and a pointed bend 4, which principally extends in a plane 5.
  • the shanks 3 of the individual hooks abut against each other, and the hook planes extend with mutual angular displacements.
  • the individual hooks are mutually secured in this position in that those end sections of the shanks which face away from the bend are surrounded by and attached to a body or a plug device 7 of a strong material which can withstand sea water.
  • the body 7 may, for example, be provided with an eye 8, to which a fishing line can be attached.
  • the eye 8 may be located at a distance from the individual hooks, i.e. the hooks themselves need not be provided with such eyes, simplifying the manufacture of the hooks.
  • the surface of that section of the shanks which is enclosed by the body 7 can be serrated, bent, etc.
  • the body 7 can be made of a thermoplastic and be injection moulded, or cast from other materials such as thermoset plastics (e.g. of the two-component type) or cast metal can be envisaged.
  • the body 7 may instead be made from a shrinkable or crimpable part, for example a part made of heat crimpable plastic.
  • the part may have a recess wherein the end sections of the shanks of the individual hooks are arranged prior to the crimping of the plastic part thereon.
  • the part may be made of a ductile material and the portion around the recess may be adapted to be crimped by pressing it around the end sections of the shanks of the individual hooks by means for e.g. a crimping tool.
  • the method for manufacturing the above-described fish-hook is as follows. First of all, the individual hooks are manufactured by means of an ordinary hook machine. This is an advantage, since double hooks have to be manufactured by means of a special machine, which is an expensive procedure.
  • the individual hooks are hardened, tumbeled, and surface treated, after which the number of individual hooks which comprise the fish-hook are collected and secured, the individual hooks' shanks 3 thus extending parallel to and close to one another, the ends of the shanks facing the same way and the planes 5 in which the respective hooks principally extend being arranged with the required mutual angular displacement.
  • this assembly of individual hooks is then placed, e.g., in a moulding machine where, around that section of the shanks which faces away from the bends, there is moulded a plug device or a body 7 which securely connects the individual hooks with one another.
  • the finished hooks For easy handling of the finished hooks, e.g. for packing in boxes, several hooks can be moulded simultaneously, the hooks being placed side by side and evenly spaced, and a thin bridge or connecting section being moulded between the bodies 7 connecting the hooks with one another.
  • weakened points can be provided near the bodies, thus enabling the hooks to be easily severed from the bridge sections.
  • the body 7 is a crimpable part the shanks 3 of the individual hooks are arranged in the recess, whereafter the portion surrounding the recess is crimped in such a way that the individual hooks thereby are firmly held.
  • these crimpable bodies may be interconnected through weakened points so that the above-mentioned advantage may be obtained for fish-hooks having bodies which are made of crimpable materials.
  • a hook manufactured in this way offers the further advantage that the hook's plug device or body 7 can easily be given a known per se shape and colour which makes it more attractive to fish, since it can, e.g., be in the shape of a fish, and can be used both for jigs, spinners, wobblers, etc. It is also provided with the capability for special preparation, e.g. the insertion of fluoridated light strips, etc.
  • the hook can comprise individual hooks of different materials and of different colours and shapes.
  • the individual hooks can be cylindrically ground or squeezed flat, and come with or without a barb.
  • the plug material is plastic, the formation of a galvanic element comprising the hook material and the plug material and the fast corrosion of one of these parts can be avoided.
  • the production of the hook according to the invention is very quick and simple, since the manufacture of the bodies 7 and the interconnection of the individual hooks and possibly the finished fish-hooks can be performed during the same stage of production.
  • the individual hooks can be hardened before the moulding or the crimping respectively of the bodies, there being no risk of the hook's hardening being lost during the joining of the hooks. This prevents deformation which can occur when hooks are joined by means of hard soldering and when hardening is performed after the soldering of the hooks.
  • the hardening can be further optimised as no allowance has to be made for the presence of solder material.
  • the hooks are of a good, even quality.
