  • US-AS-1 ,940,564 discloses a device of the above type for placing a sausage in a sandwich, where the two cylinder members of the cylinder are hinged together along a generatrix of the cylinder.
  • This device is excellent for placing solid filling, such as a sausage, in a sandwich.
  • the device is not suited for filling of a varying shape, such as when it for instance includes salad, because the cylinder can only be filled with so much filling which the lower cylinder member can contain. Accordingly, this device does not allow insertion of sufficiently large quantities of non-solid or loose filling into the sandwich.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a device of the above type which allows insertion of almost all types of filling in the desired quan- tity into a loaf.
  • the device according to the invention is characterised in that it com ⁇ prises a movable filling funnel with a discharge opening adapted to be placed immediately adjacent the filling opening and with walls extending upwards from the opening of the discharge opening.
  • a movable filling funnel with a discharge opening adapted to be placed immediately adjacent the filling opening and with walls extending upwards from the opening of the discharge opening.
  • the filling funnel may comprise two oppos ⁇ ing parallel walls with a mutual distance substantially corresponding to the width of the upper cylinder portion, whereby the desired compress ⁇ ing of the filling is allowed in a simple manner when the upper cylinder portion is moved downwards into the funnel.
  • the filling funnel may according to the invention be axially displaceably arranged relative to the lower cylinder portion. Such an embodiment turned out to be particularly advantageous in practise.
  • the filling funnel may be fixedly connected to the outer piston means, whereby a particularly advanta ⁇ geous embodiment is obtained, especially when the filling funnel accord ⁇ ing to an additional embodiment comprises an end wall forming the outer piston means.
  • the upper cylinder portion may be axially displaceable together with the filling funnel relative to the lower cylinder portion, and the end wall of the filling funnel may com ⁇ prise an opening in which the lower cylinder portion is received, and the inner piston means may be displaceably arranged independent of the outer piston means.
  • the resulting embodiment is particularly preferred, and in practice it turned out to be particularly suited for insertion of almost all types of filling into a loaf.
  • a projecting bushing may furthermore according to the invention be arranged about the opening in the funnel end wall, said bushing being of an outer cross section essentially corresponding to the cross section of the opening formed in advance in the loaf.
  • the means for ensuring a simultaneous movement of the two piston portion may according to the invention be formed by co ⁇ operating locking means between the inner piston means and the upper cylinder portion for a selective locking thereof so as to ensure a simul ⁇ taneous axial displacement thereof, whereby the handling of the device is particularly simple.
  • Fig. 1 is a vertical, sectional side view through an embodiment of a device according to the invention
  • Fig. 2 is a central sectional view taken along the line ll-ll of Fig. 1 , whereby, however, parts of the device not visible in said sectional view have been included for illustrative reasons, and Figs. 3A-3C are diagrammatic view of three steps of the handling of the device according to the invention.
  • Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate a device according to the invention for insertion of filling into a loaf, said device comprising a support 1 and a slide 2 displaceably arranged thereon.
  • the support 1 comprises a base plate 3 and a post 4 extending from the base plate at one end thereof.
  • a substantially semicylindrical lower cylinder portion 5 is secured to the post 4, said portion 5 comprising a filling opening 6 facing radially upwards.
  • the cylinder portion 5 extends perpendicular from the post 4 and extends thus substantially parallel to the base plate 3.
  • the lower cylinder portion 5 is tapered at its outer end
  • the slide 2 is displaceably arranged on the support 1 parallel to the axis of the lower cylinder portion 5, and it comprises a front end wall 8, a rear wall 9, and two side walls 10, 1 1 interconnecting the front end wall
  • a bushing 12 is arranged in an opening in the front end wall, said bush ⁇ ing extending beyond the front surface 13 of the front end wall 8.
  • the bushing is adapted to be inserted in an opening 14 formed in advance in a loaf 15 being indicated by way of dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2.
  • the bushing 12 is tapered towards its front end.
  • the bushing is furthermore sealingly arranged around the lower cylinder portion 5, which accordingly extends into said bushing.
  • the axial displacement of the slide 2 relative to the support 1 is further- more provided by means of guide tracks 16, 17 in the outer side of the side walls 10, 11.
  • Guide pins 18, 19 are received in the side walls 10, 11 and project from opposing inner surfaces 21 , 22 of a recess 23 at the upper end of the post 4.
  • the inner distance between the inner sur- faces 21 and 22 of the recess 23 corresponds to the distance between the outer surfaces 24, 25 of the side walls 1 1 , 12 of the slide 2.
  • the lower edge face 26 of the front end wall 8 rests on the upper sur ⁇ face of the base plate 3.
  • a piston 28 is axially displaceably arranged in the lower cylinder portion 5 and is provided with two sealing rings 29.
  • the piston 28 is further ⁇ more connected to a piston rod 30 extending through an opening in the end surface 31 of the lower cylinder portion 5 and the recess 23 in the post 4 of the support 1.
  • the piston rod 30 is at its outer end provided with a button 32.
  • An upper cylinder portion 34 is pivotally journalled about a transverse shaft 33 adjacent the rear end of the slide 2, said cylinder portion 34 being substantially semi-cylindrical with the opening facing downwards.
