Abstract
In the case of continuous casting of a metallic piece by the use of the continuous casting apparatus provided with a stopper (28) for controlling a quantity of molten metal flowing into the mold, fluctuation qw in flow quantity of molten metal, which flows into and out from the mold (18), caused by external disturbance is estimated from at least preceding two values among a measured value L of the level of molten metal in the mold (18), a measured value x or command value Pr of the position of said stopper (28), and a measured value V of casting speed. Estimation of flow quantity fluctuation qw is conducted in such steps that, for example, a measured value x of the position of the stopper (28) is inputted to a process model representing fluctuations in molten metal level and time-dependent variations in external disturbance, the difference between an estimated value L of the molten steel level obtained from a model and a measured value L is fed back to said model and both values are made equal to each other, and the difference between estimated value L of the molten metal level and measured value L obtained during the process of the computation is integrated. Then, an operating quantity c of said stopper (28) required for compensating for the estimated flow quantity fluctuation qw (external disturbance) is found and, by operating said stopper (28) on the basis of said quantity c, a level of molten metal is controlled to be constant all the time.
