Abstract

The invention refers to anti-glare eyeglasses to be used against 'blindness' caused by light rays of headlights of on-coming vehicles during night driving. The anti-glare eyeglasses according to this invention comprise a frame having an inner groove, hinged arms attached to said frame and eliminate the disadvantages of the already known solutions by providing a number of sights in the groove of the frame, said sights having a plane surface with a circular opening onto the circumference of which a frustrum of a cone (3) is attached, its base angle (alpha) varying from 15 to 85 degrees the size of its big base (H) being identical to that of the circular opening, its small base (i) being continued by a cylinder (4) providing a circular vision area (K).

Description

Anti-glare eyeglasses
This invention provides for anti-glare eyeglasses comprising a frame and two hinged arms to be used by drivers in night driving. There haire been known anti-glare eyeglasses, for use in night driving which prevent driver blindness by using polarized light. Their major shortcoming. lies in that polarized light is seldom used with motor cars. Other anti- glare eyeglasses, shielding car drivers against the glareof the headlights of on-coming vehicles make use of coloured filtering shields in shape of a cone or frustrum of cone or half sphere or any other shape easily adaptable to the eyesight. Their disadvantage is due to a decrease in the visual perception of areas outside, the dazzling portion. The above-mentioned shortcomings are eliminated by the anti-glare eyeglasses made according to this
invention which in order to prevent the driver from being blinded by the glare of the headlights of on-coming
vehicles have been provided with a number of sights having a plane surface with a ciroular opening around which a frustrum of a cone is fixed having a base angle of 15 to 85 degrees and a base area of a size identical to that of the ciroular opening and a top area continued by a cylinder the end of which provides a ciroular vision area. By wearing the anti-glare eyeglasses of this invention. the drivers can fully avoid blindness due to the headlights of the on-coming vehicles while permanently keeping the road wey under observation. In one preferred aspect the anti-glare eyeglasses of this invent ion can be described according to the
following figures 1 . . .4 which represent : Fig. 1 front view of the anti-glare eyeglasses ;
Fig. 2 view of left and right sights of the antiglare eyeglasses ;
Fig. 3 cross-section of a sight ;
Fig. 4 sketch view of sight in an optical field .
The anti-glare eyeglasses of this invention c omprise a frame 1 with a vertical edge A a horizontal base B and a yoke 0 which is continued at its upper end by a strength element D. The inner edge of the frame has a groove 1. A hinge and an eyeglass arm (not represented in the figure because tbey are already known per se) are fixed pnto the Bight and left side of the upper part of edge A .
A sight 2 enters the groove E; the plane area of the sight takes after the shape of the eyeglasses.
Said plane area F provides for a circular opening G. The distance in-between the centre of this circular opening and the centre of the G opening of the next sight
corresponds to the interpupilar distance of the driver's eyes. A frustrum of a cone 3 is attached to the circumference of the opening G; the frustrum of a cone has a big base H and a small base I, a side surface J
continued from the small base I by a cylinder 4 providing s circular vision area K at its distal end.
The sight 2 is made of s transparent material which diminishes the effect of the light coming onto its surface by using the refraction of the light rays. Both t he frustrum of a cone 3 and the cylinder 4 are made of the same transparent material so that the intensity of the light rays coming on to that ayeg be not altered . The angle between the side surface J i.e. its generatrix and big radius H varies from 15 to 85 degrees. Upon using the anti-glare eyeglasses of this invention at night , the light rays of the headlights of the on-coming vehicles fall o nto the side surface J of the frustrum of cone 3 and are reflected in such a manner that the driver 's eyesight is not affeflted as he sees
through the cylinder 4 and the vision area K. As the plane surface 2 is made of a transparent material which diminishes the effect of the light of the headlights will peroepied as side light spots while eyes can look right- ahead seeing every detail of the roadway through the vision area K. Whenever the glare of the head lights far off beαomes damaging the driver must simply turn his head slightly to the apposite side to avoid blindness i.e.
while placing the left edge of the vision area K tangent to the left headlight of the on-coming vehicle (Fig .4)
