Abstract

A stay for the bonnet (2) of a motor vehicle has two gas springs (6, 7), the first, (6), of which has a shorter travel than the second, (7), and its travel is such that it is fully extended when the bonnet (2) is in a first opening position. To take the bonnet (2) to a second position giving virtually free access to the engine compartment (1) it is necessary merely slightly to raise the bonnet (2) to overcome the static friction in the second gas spring (7) and the residual pressure in this gas spring is sufficient to open the bonnet (2) completely. This opening movement is not hampered by the first gas spring since on its cylinder (8) there is a movable casing tube (14) which provides the link between the first gas spring (6) and the hinge (13) on the bonnet (2).

Description

AUFSTELLVORRICHTUNG FÜR DIE MOTOR- ODER KOFFERRAUMHAUBE SET-UP DEVICE FOR THE ENGINE OR TRUNK COVER
Beschreibungdescription
The invention relates to an installation device for the engine or trunk hood of a motor vehicle according to the preamble of claim 1.
Such a stand-up device, known for example from DE-A 37 18 842, has the purpose of being able to bring an opening of the hood beyond a first or normal opening position into a second opening position, which is necessary, for example, for larger work in the engine space without being able to carry out the otherwise necessary removal of the bonnet or to be able to transport bulky goods that cannot be accommodated with the trunk lid normally open. A disadvantage of the known device is that the hood must be lifted by hand from the first open position into the second open position and that the user must unlock a support lever in order to be able to reach the second open position of the hood, in which the support lever automatically is locked. To close the hood, the support lever must be manually unlocked again, whereupon the hood can be brought into its closed position in its first open position and by compressing the gas springs.
The invention has for its object to provide an opening device of the generic type, in which the opening movement from the first to the second opening position is largely effected by spring force and a manually operated locking or support device is not required. This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of the patent claim.
In the proposal according to the invention, the cover is brought into the first open position after the release of the locking by the combined force of the two gas springs, in which the first gas spring has reached the end of its stroke. The second gas spring alone is not able to bring the hood out of a rest position into the second opening position. However, if the hood is only raised slightly by hand and the initial friction is thus overcome, the second gas spring can bring the hood with its remaining stroke into the second open position. In order to make this additional opening path possible for the first gas spring, the jacket tube which is displaceably arranged on the cylinder or the piston rod of this first gas spring is provided and extends between this gas spring and one of its articulation points. Such a jacket tube is known per se from DE-A 32 25 974 and 34 33 735. There the jacket tube is slidably arranged on the cylinder of the gas spring. The same effect is achieved, however, if a corresponding jacket tube is slidably arranged on the piston rod.
Es zeigt:An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the drawings. It shows:
Fig.l eine perspektivische Ansicht des Vorderteils eines Kraftfahrzeuges mit einer Motorhaube, die in eine erste Öffnungsstellung angehoben ist, undFig.l is a perspective view of the front part of a motor vehicle with a hood, which is raised in a first open position, and
Fig.2 die gleiche Ansicht wie Fig. 1, jedoch mit ganz geöffneter Motorhaube.2 shows the same view as FIG. 1, but with the bonnet fully open.
The front part of a motor vehicle shown in the figures contains an engine compartment 1, in which the not shown 2 provided drive motor of the motor vehicle is arranged and which can be closed by a hood 2. The engine hood 2 is hinged to the body 4 of the motor vehicle via hinges 3. In order to achieve an automatic opening of the bonnet 2 after releasing a locking device, of which only the catch hook 5 arranged on the bonnet 2 is visible, two gas springs 6 and 7 are provided, each of which consists of a cylinder 8 filled with compressed gas or 9 and a piston slidable therein, connected to a piston rod 10 or 11. The gas springs 6, 7 are each arranged between an articulation point 12 on the body 4 and an articulation point 13 on the bonnet 2.
The first gas spring 6 has a smaller stroke than the second gas spring 7, and its stroke is dimensioned such that it is fully extended when the bonnet 2 is in its first opening position, shown in FIG. 1. The bonnet 2 is brought into this first opening position by the combined force of the gas springs 6 and 7, in which the second gas spring 7 has not yet reached the end of its stroke. However, their force is not sufficient to bring the bonnet 2 alone into the full opening position shown in FIG. 2.
In the first opening position according to FIG. 1, the usual simple maintenance work, such as oil level control, oil change, brake fluid control, cooling water control, etc. can be carried out, which are also often carried out by the vehicle owner himself. In this first opening position, the bonnet 2 can also be gripped by relatively small people for closing. If major repair work is now to be carried out, for example the engine must be removed, the hood 2 must be opened further. This is done by slightly lifting the bonnet 2 by hand, which causes static friction is overcome in particular in the second gas spring 7 and the gas spring 7 is extended under the gas pressure still present in it to the end of its stroke, in which the bonnet 2 assumes the position shown in FIG. 2. The first gas spring 6 does not contribute to this opening process, since, as said, it has already reached the first opening position of the bonnet 2 according to FIG. 1 at the end of its stroke. The further opening movement into the full open position according to FIG. 2 is not hindered by the first gas spring 6 in that a jacket tube 14 is arranged between its cylinder 8 and the articulation point 13 on the bonnet 2, said tube being slidably seated on the cylinder 8. The cylinder 8 thus remains in its extended position in the second opening position of the bonnet 2 according to FIG. 2 and only the jacket tube 14 moves on the cylinder 8, as can be seen from FIG. 2.
The proposal according to the invention has the advantage over the prior art that the bonnet 2 is brought essentially from the first open position according to FIG. 1 into the second open position according to FIG. 2 by the residual force of the second gas spring 7 and that none is closed manually actuating locking or unlocking devices are required to bring the bonnet 2 into the second opening position, to hold it in this opening position and to release it from this opening position.
The invention is not limited to an installation device for the bonnet, but can equally be used for the installation of the trunk hood, since there may also be a desire to be able to open the trunk hood further than normal if necessary.
