Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an apparatus for automatic coupling and uncoupling of leaders on to and off from a trot-line, wherein the leaders are connectable to the trot-line by means of claw-shaped members cooperating by snap-fit with spherical members on the trot-line.
  • a trot-line used in commercial fishing can have a length of several thousand meters.
  • the handling of a trot-line during baiting, setting and hauling has traditionally been very laborious. Therefore, it has been a continuous development of means for mechanization of said labour.
  • One of the major problems has been to prevent the leaders with their hooks from entanglements in the trot-line, when storing and handling said line.
  • the problem can be avoided by separating the leaders from the main line when the trot-line is hauled and storing them separately, whereafter they will be reattached to the trot-line when its set from the boat.

  • each hook is stored in a guide means while the entire main line hangs in loose turns below the guide means.
  • These systems are space consuming on a fishing vessel. Besides, they normally need to be served by 3-4 men.
  • One of the objects of the invention is to provide a func ⁇ tional apparatus for handling trot-line both when setting and hauling the line.
  • the apparatus comprises means for coupling the claw-shaped members on the spherical members of the trot-line, means for uncoupling the claw-shaped members from the spherical trot-line members, and at least one magazine for the leaders located between said members.

This means that the height of the magazine will be reduced so that it can be produced in a light weight, in spite of its length of up to about 4 meters.
