Abstract
A device for indicating the hit of a light beam emitted from a test weapon has a wall (1) provided with a large number of small through holes allowing only passage of light (3) directed substantially perpendicular to the wall (1) and emitted by an emitter (2) attached to a test weapon. A disturbing light is emitted by a source (5) to prevent the user of the test weapon from observing the light hit from his weapon on the wall (1). An observer may check the hit from the side of the wall (1) remote from the disturbing light (5).
Description
A Device for Indicating the Hit of a Light Beam Emitted from a Test Weapon
The present invention relates to a device for indicating the hit of a light beam emitted from a test weapon.
Guns for hunting should be shaped so as to be individually suitable for the hunter. This is realised practically by providing an adjustable test weapon with a light emitter directing a light beam for less than about 1/10 second in the aiming direction upon firing the test weapon. The light beams are directed towards a target device designed so that the hit result may be seen by an observer while being invisible for the hunter. The observer may adjust the adjustable test weapon which after a number of tests and adjustments will obtain the optimum shape. The final shape of the test weapon may now be reproduced when shaping a real hunting gun.
The known devices for indicating the light hits have been very expensive and of a large volume. They may comprise semipermeable mirrors and adjustable light sources at both sides thereof. It has also been proposed to use infra red light in the light emitter and have the hit registrated by a TV-camera.
The present invention has for its object to provide a much more simple, cheaper and at least as effective device for indicating the hit of a light beam emitted by a test weapon.
A device for indicating the hit of a light beam emitted from a test weapon comprising a light permeable wall designed so that only light of the emitted beam can pass through it, while other types of light will be reflected and/or absorbed by said wall, said device further comprising a shield at both sides of the wall and a disturbing light source adapted to emit light against the wall of a type being reflected in several directions by said wall, said disturbing source being arranged at the same side of the wall as that exposed to the emitted light, is according to the present invention characterised in that said wall is made of a material non- permeable to light and is provided with a large number of through holes.
The invention will be described in more detail reference being made to the drawing showing schematically and in vertical section a preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention.
In the drawing the reference numeral 1 designates a wall made of a plastic material which does not allow light to pass through it. The wall may have a thickness of about 5 mm, but the thickness is by no means critical. The wall is perforated by a large number of holes directed perpendicular to the two surfaces of the wall 1. The holes may have a diameter of between 0.25 mm and 2 mm, preferably about 1 mm and the number of holes may be from 5 to 50 per square cm, preferably 8 mm. The wall 1 may have square shape and a size of e.g. 30 x 30 cm.
Light may be emitted during short periods - less than 1/100 of a second - by a light source 2 fastened to a test weapon (not shown and not forming any part of the present invention). The light beams emitted from the source 2 has been designated by 3 and follows the path aimed by the test weapon.
The wall 1 is surrounded by a shield 4 extending at both sides of the wall 1, and a disturbing light source 5 has been arranged to emit light against the same side of the wall 1 as that reached by the light beam 3. Said side has also ben provided with a mark 6 against which the test weapon and thus the light beam 3 should be directed. A sheet 7 of opaque material being semipermeable to light has been placed at the rear side of the wall 1 and parallel thereto at a distance of about 1 - 6 cm.
The device shown and described above will operate as follows:
The test person (to whom the weapon shoul be individually shaped) is asked to aim at the mark 6 and fire the test weapon which will emit a ligt beam 3 of short duration. Due to the disturbing light from the source 5, which is continously in operation, the test person is not able to see his hit result on the wall 1. However, an observer may see the result on the sheet 7. The observer may now amend the shape of the test weapon and ask for a repeated try by the test person. After a number of shots and adjustments the test weapon has got a shape which corresponds to the demands of the test person.
