Abstract
Selon un procédé de codage numérique utile lors de la transmission et/ou de l'enregistrement de signaux acoustiques, notamment de signaux de musique, des valeurs de balayage du signal acoustique sont transformées au moyen d'une transformation ou d'un banc de filtrage en une suite de deuxièmes valeurs de balayage qui reproduisent la composition spectrale des signaux acoustiques, cette suite de deuxièmes valeurs de balayage est quantifiée avec divers degrés de précision, selon les besoins, et codée partiellement ou entièrement au moyen d'un codeur optimal. Lors de la reproduction, on procède à un décodage et à une transformation inverse correspondants. Ce procédé se caractérise par le fait que l'on utilise un codeur de manière connue en soi. La probabilité d'occurence d'un coefficient spectral quantifié est mise en relation avec la longueur du code de telle sorte que les mots de code sont d'autant plus courts que les coefficients spectraux surviennent plus fréquemment. Afin de réduire les dimensions de la table de codage du codeur, un mot de code ou le cas échéant un code supplémentaire est attribué à plusieurs éléments de la suite ou à un domaine de valeurs. Une partie des mots de code de longueur variable sont agencés dans une grille et les mots de code restants sont distribués parmi les lacunes restantes, de sorte qu'il est plus facile de retrouver le début d'un mot de code lors d'une transmission défectueuse ou sans qu'il soit nécessaire de procéder à un décodage total.
