Description

HYGIENIC GAUNTLET PROVIDED, ON AT LEAST ONE SIDE
THEREOF, WITH A LAYER DRENCHED WITH A DETERGENT OR
DESINFECTANT SUBSTANCE, EXPOSABLE AT WILL WHEN NEEDED FOR USE, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
The invention relates to a hygienic gauntlet
provided, on at least one side thereof, with a la¬
yer drenched with a detergent or desinfectant sub¬
stance, exposable at will when needed for use. The invention comprises also a method for pro¬
ducing such gauntlet.
The increasing need for cleaning and/or desin¬
fecting all kinds of things especially in hauses,
clinics and the like where sick people are in bed
or hospitalized makes it necessary to have at dispo¬
sal convenient, cleaning and desinfecting means ea¬ sily and quickly made ready for use at any moment.
Accordingly the invention aims to provide a clea¬
ning and/or desinfecting article that can be easily
and quickly made ready for effecting all kinds of
cleaning and/or desinfecting actions.
The article of the invention is a gauntlet for¬
med as a bag of rectangular shape wherein at least
one wall thereof is formed as a "sandwich" consi-
sting of two sheets of a suitable flexible plastic material, as for instant polyethylene, containing a layer of an adsorbing material, as for instant a
non-woven fabric, made from cotton-viscose fibers wi¬ th 70-80% of binding fibers, drenched with a conve-
nient substance as for instance benzalkonium chlori¬ de.
The two sheets of polyethylene comprise one wall of the bag shaped gauntlet and an outer rectangular
sheet sealed along the four sides thereof to the la- yer of non-woven fabric drenched with benzalkonium
chloride.
At the moment of use the outer sheet of polye¬ thylene can be easily torn off since the sealed si¬ des thereof tear easily when the sheet is pulled out.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention also the other wall of the bag shaped gauntlet has
a sandwich like construction wherein the inner la¬
yer of adsorbing material either is dry or is dren¬
ched with the same or another substance.
In the first case the dry layer, when exposed in the same way as disclosed above, can be used for
wiping off the surface wet by the drenched layer of
the other side.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method for quickly and economically producing the
above desclosed gauntlet.
This method comprises the steps of:
a) forming an endless band of the flexible plastic
material folded as a V; b) superimposing an endless band of flexible adsorbing material to the outer
surface of at least one of the two half band; c) lea¬
ving a free stripe adjacent the open end of the fol¬
ded band; d) covering the band of adsorbing material by an endless band of the flexible plastic material;
e) heat sealing together the so formed three layers
along three sides of a rectangle; f) sprying the dren¬
ching substance onto the absorbing layer through the
fourth, open side; g) heat sealing the fourth side and cutting the so formed bag.
The gauntlet of the invention and the method for producing the same will be now more particularly de¬
scribed with reference to the annexed drawings whe-
r
Figure imgf000005_0001
ein : fig. 1 is a perspective view of the gauntlet;
fig. 2 is a similar view of the gauntlet with
the outer sheet partially torn off; fig. 3 is an enlarged view showing an axial se¬
ction of the gauntlet; fig. 4 is a perspective view of the endless su¬
perimposed bands utilized for producing the gauntlet of the invention;
fig. 5 is a similar view showing the heat sea-
ling, drenching and cutting operations; and
ig. 6 is a view identical with fig. 1 showing the gauntlet as a result of the preceding steps.
With reference to figures 1 to 3 the article the invention comprises a bag-shaped gauntlet 10 formed
by two rectangular sheets of polyethylene 11 and 12
joined along three sides in order to leave an open mouth 13.
As evident from fig. 3 adjacent to sheets 11 and 12 is a layer of an adsorbing material 14 and 15, re-
spectively, to which an identical shaped and sized sheet of polyethylene, 16 and 18, is superimposed.
Layers 14 and 15 and outer sheets 16 and 18 ha¬ ve an axial size shorter than the length of sheets
11 and 12 so that two stripes of polyethylene 19 and 20 are included between open mouth 13 and the sea¬
ling areas 21 and 22 wherein inner sheet 11, layer 14 and outer sheet 16, on one hand and inner sheet
12, layer 15 and outer sheet 18 on the other hand a- re sealingly joined together. Furthermore the six elements 11,14,16 and 12,
15,18 are sealingly joined also along the other three
sides thereof, as indicated by.23,24 and 25.
As mentioned above, adsorbent layer 14, that pre-
ferably is a non-woven fabric of cotton-viscose fi¬
bers, is drenched with a detergent and/or desinfectant
substance, as for instance, benzalkonium chloride that is a typical quaternary ammonium salt.
As it will be self evident, sheet 16 sealed a-
long the four sides 21,23,24,25 will keep wet layer
14 and accordingly ready for use at any subsequent
time when sheet 16 is torn off by any pulling out a-
ction exerted thereupon.
Furthermore, layer 15, of the same adsorbing a-
terial as layer 14, can be either dry or also dren¬
ched with benzalkonium chloride or another deterging and/or desinfecting substance.
In the first case tearing off sheet 18 will expo¬
se a clean and dry layer 15 of an adsorbing material
ready for wiping off any article or surface wet by
the action of layer 14.
In use, the user will first fit the gauntlet o-
ver his hand through mouth 13 and then will expose
wet layer 14 by tearing off sheet 16 to perform the desired cleaning or desinfecting action.
Subsequently he will perform the wiping off ac¬
tion by means of dry layer 15 having turned gauntlet
10 in order to bring the other side thereof in corre-
spondence of his hand pal .
To facilitate these operations outer sheets 16
and 18 may be differently coloure .
The same operations are performed if also adsor¬
bing layer 15 is drenched with a whatever convenient substance.
A further advantageous feature of the invention is that the gauntlet can be taken off without tou¬
ching layers 14 and 15 by turning inside out the sa¬
me, gripping stripe 19 or 20. Figures 4÷6 show different steps of the method
for producing gauntlet 10.
Fig. 4 shows the endless blank band of polyethy¬
lene 100 folded at V at 101 in order to have two half
bands 111 and 112 open at 113.
To the outer surface of half band 111 an endless
band 114 of an adsorbing material consisting of a non- woven fabric is superimposed and finally and endless
band 116 of polyethylene having the same transversal
size of band 114 is superimposed on the latter. As bands 114 and 116 have a width smaller than
the width of half band 111, and the right edges the¬
reof 102, 103 coincide with folding 101, a free stri¬
pe 119 is formed between the opening 113 existing be-
tween the two half bands 111 and 112 and the left ed¬ ge 104 of superimposed bands 114 and 116.
Afterwards a heath sealing action is performed a- long three lines, namely dashed line 105, folding 101
with edges 102 and 103 coinciding therewith and edge 104, as indicate by areas 121,124 and 125. The heath
sealing (121) along edge 104 is performed after in¬
troduction of a blade element (not shown) in opening 113 in order to avoid joining of sheets 111 and 112
together. As clearly shown in fig. 5 this last step leaves
an open mouth 106 in correspondence of the cut per¬ formed along dashed line 105 leaving sealing 125 on
the right hand side.
Through open mouth 106 the step is performed of
drenching layer 14 (resulting from band 114) with ben¬
zalkonium chloride or other convenient substance.
Heat sealing of mouth 106 in the area 123,un¬
til the edges forming opening 113, completes the producing method of gauntlet 10 (fig. 6) . Identical steps are performed on the other half-
band 112 for providing the same with a "sandwich" con¬ struction comprising sheets 12 and 18 containing la¬
yer 15, according to the preferred embodiment of the
invention.
It should be noted that the heat sealing ac¬
tions on areas 123,124 and 125 will join together six different bands namely the bands forming the two pai¬
rs of sheets 11 and 16, 12 and 18 containing layers
14 and 15, respectively, in-between.
It will be appreciated that the use of the gaun¬
tlet of the invention is particularly suitable in all cases wherein handling of very sick people or things
belonging to them is necessary, as for instance in case of people ill with AIDS _
