Abstract
A semitrailer is provided with movable intermediate floors (27) which guided in vertical side profiles (15) can be fixed in various positions above the bottom surface (33). The raising and lowering of the floors can be effected by means of axles (41) connected to the floors (27) by wires (37). Hereby the loading space can be better utilized by the transport of freight units of different heights.
Description
CARGO SPACE OR CONTAINER
The invention relates to a cargo space or a container for use in connection with the transport of freight.
It is a drawback to the known cargo spaces or containers that it is not possible to utilize the freight capacity fully when the load is placed on the bottom surface. It is often a question of freight units of different heights which cannot be stacked on top of each other because of the weight or shape of the units.
The object of the invention is to present a cargo space or a container of the above mentioned type by which a greater rate of utilization of the loading space can be achieved.
This is achieved in a cargo space or a container of the kind mentioned in the preamble which is unique in that the cargo space or the container comprises an intermediate floor placed above the bottom surface and raisable and lowerable in relation to the bottom floor, which intermediate floor is partitioned into sections extending between the side or end walls of the cargo space and in that each section is provided with an individual winch for raising and lowering by means of wire drives, cord drives, belt drives, chain drives or the like placed outside the effective storage space of the cargo space.
According to the invention the load, which is to be transported, can be placed at two levels, i. e. on the bottom surface and on the sections of the intermediate floor. The sections which f. inst. can
have the same depth as the greatest dimension of a standard cargo space, can according to the invention be adjusted individually corresponding to the height of the freight units, whereby the storage space can be utilized optimally, even in case of several different units. This effect is enhanced by employing wire drives or similar drives for the raising or lo¬ wering of the sections, which drives requiring for so little space that they can be built into the load- bearing construction of the sides and the top of the container.
The invention can be designed both with several load¬ ing gates along the sides or with only one loading gate at one of the ends.
Claims 2 to 10 present a number of preferred embodiments of details of the invention.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will here¬ after be described in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a semitrailer according to the invention,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the frontmost part of the semitrailer,
Fig. 3 is a hind view of the inside of the semi¬ trailer,
Fig. 4 shows schematically the construction of an elevating device for intermediate floors according to the invention,
Fig. 5 is a horisontal section through a side
profile and guides for intermediate floors placed in the profile,
Fig. 6 is a vertical section of an elevating device for an intermediate floor according to the invention, and
Fig. 7 is a vertical section along the line VII- VII in fig. 5.
A three-axled semitrailer or cargo space 1 according to the invention is constructed upon a chassis frame (not shown) in the usual way and is, in its dis¬ connected state, supported by wheels 3 and supporting legs 5.
The cargo space is completely closed by sides 7, roof 9, a closed front side 11 and a back side closed by an elevating door 13 and a lift 15.
As shown in fig. 3 the sides 7 and the roof 9 of the cargo space are constructed upon a framework in which side profiles 15 connected to the chassis extend to the corner connection at the roof 9. According to fig. 6 the connection consists of a corner profile 17 extending along the the length of the cargo space and welded to the side profiles 15 and the roof profiles 19 respectively. To permit the transmission of vert¬ ical strains from the roof profiles 19 to the side profiles 15 an angle profile 21 is welded to the ends of the side profiles, the one outer surface of which abuts the side profiles 15 while its other outer surface faces the inside of the cargo space and extends vertically upwards. As shown in fig. 3 more roof profiles 19 are provided than side profiles 15.
As shown in fig. 5 the side profiles 15 are rather
flat, U-shaped and provided with flanges or wings 22. Sideplates 23 are made of plywood and fastened to the side profiles 15 and an external covering plate 25 is attached to each profile 15.
Between the side profiles 15 at each side 7 intermediate floors 27 are suspended, each with dimensions to accomodate three EUR standard pallets 120 cm x 80 cm side by side. At each corner of an intermediate floor 27 are placed side guides 29, possibly in the form of rollers which can glide or roll in a groove in the side profile 15. Four pawls 31 in each floor 27 can secure this with respect to the side profiles 15 as the pawls 31 can be thrown into mesh with holes 32 in the side profiles 15 at a number of different levels above the bottom 33 of the cargo space. The pawls 31 are spring-loaded towards the extended position and can be operated for simultaneous disengagement via a rod drive (not shown) worked by a hand crank. To secure the connect¬ ion of the pawls with the side profiles 15 each pawl 31 is at the under side provided with a notch 35, see fig. 7, in such a way that the pawl 31 cannot by accidental horizontal movements be brought out of engagement with the edge of the hole 32.
To be able to raise or lower each intermediate floor 27 separately a steel wire 37 or a similar flexible connection means is provided close to, or as shown in figs. 5 and 6, is connected to each guide 29, which connection means extends inside the side profile 1 through a hole in the angle profile 21 up to the corner connection where a roller 39 rotably mounted on a roof profile 19 leads the wire 37 on to a coil- ing axle 41. The profile 21 has cut-outs for the roller 39 and the roof profile 19. The axles 41, of which there is one for each intermediate floor 27,
are supported in holes 43 in the roof profiles 19 and are connected with the four wires 37 for each floor 27 in such a way that the turning of an axle 41 results in the floors 27 being raised or lowered simultaneously. The principle is shown in fig. -4. Each axle 41 is driven by a hydraulic motor 45 mounted on the front side 11 of the cargo space. Pressure oil is supplied by the hydraulic system of a (not shown) truck (or tractor for a semitrailer).
When the invention is in use the cargo space 1 is loaded from the back end while all the floors 27 except the frontmost floor are raised to just below the roof 9. When the space upon and under the front- most floor 27 is filled up, the loading of the next floor can begin, and so on. Hereby a great utiliz¬ ation ratio of the loading space can be obtained.
It is obvious that the cargo space according to the invention can be designed in many ways different from the hereindescribed, both as regards the suspension of the intermediate floors, the elevating system and the side guides. The cargo space can f.inst. be provided with several loading gates at the sides instead of one at the end as shown, whereby direct access could be obtained to each intermediate floor from the side which may result in quicker loading and unloading of the cargo space.
