Definitions

  • the invention relates to a data transmission system, in particular a digital radio or television broadcast transmission system, with receiving devices having individual addresses.
  • a data transmission system in particular a digital radio or television broadcast transmission system, with receiving devices having individual addresses.
  • Such data transmission systems in which each individual receiver has an individual address that is difficult or difficult to manipulate and in which transmission of addresses is possible in the transmission channel, are known as wired or wireless systems, e.g. in conventional wired telecommunication networks, radio telephones, or the like.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a data transmission system in which unauthorized operation of receiving devices is largely avoided.
  • the data transmission system according to the invention has the advantage that theft or unauthorized operation of receiving devices can be considered useless from the outset. Attempts at insurance fraud with reception devices - in particular car radios - which have been reported as stolen have appeared more frequently recently . which, however, had in no way been stolen, are useless in the data transmission system according to the invention in the same way as the theft of such devices themselves. In both cases, unauthorized use can be prevented with the receiving devices according to the invention.
  • the address of the receiving device in question is transmitted via an authorized point to a central control computer.
  • the latter adopts the address in a list of stolen receivers or offending radio fee payers.
  • This list - provided with appropriate error protection - is transmitted in a repeated repetition multiplexed with the actual digital useful broadcast signal.
  • the addresses of the registered receiving devices either remain in the - if applicable - list of the central computer either for a limited time (for example a few months or years) or until the device is found again or until the fee has been paid.
  • police stations, insurance agencies, inca-sostas for broadcasting fees, or the like can be provided as authorized bodies.
  • the transmitted addresses are continuously compared for the coincidence of a received address with the individual address of the receiving device.
  • the receiving device will only work undisturbed as long as it does not receive its own address. If, however, one's own address is recognized without a doubt in the address data stream, the receiving device will trigger a predetermined reaction, which preferably results in an irreversible malfunction of the receiving device or, in the case of a vehicle receiving device, in a malfunction of the vehicle.
  • the malfunction of the receiver can be caused, for example, by self-destruction of an integrated circuit with a central function, which is not freely traded and therefore cannot be replaced by manipulating hobbyists.
  • a malfunction of a vehicle for example, a starting block or ignition malfunction of the engine can be triggered, although preference is given to measures which do not impair the road safety of the vehicle.
  • the address transmission can also be used for the sustainable reminder of late payers of broadcasting fees.
  • the address of the corresponding receiving devices also remains stored in the central computer until the corresponding fee has been paid.
  • the transmission of the address cannot cause any damage to the receiving device.
  • a "remote self-disturbance" - as in the case of theft - appears to be quite justified and effective as a countermeasure.
  • a length of approximately 32 bits is to be provided for the addresses. Even if the considerable number of 600,000 devices reported as stolen should then be reached, with "moderate" error protection and an address data rate of approx. 5 kbit / s, the complete address list would be transmitted within 1.5 hours each. Since the list is repeated continuously, a thief would have enjoyed the undisturbed operation of a device "acquired" by theft for a maximum of 1.5 hours after the central computer had received the theft report.

  • the signals received by the antenna 1 come to a receiving part 2, in which the signals are selected and then demodulated.
  • the demodulated useful and address data shown in FIG. 2, are supplied to the circuit 3 at its input E.
  • This circuit contains the own stored address in block 9, the address decoding (test circuit) in block 8 and block 10 and a destructible fuse 6 in the user data stream.
  • the circuit 3 is designed as an integrated one-chip circuit.
  • the address of the memory located in block 3, which can be in the form of a PROM memory is to be assigned either by the seller or by the owner of the device to an owner-specific identifier, e.g. B. passport number, programmed. It is also possible for the manufacturer to specify a fixed address that is regularly broadcast by the broadcaster. The buyer would then be forced to reprogram the device to its individual address before commissioning in order to avoid self-destruction.
  • the address data are selected in demultiplexing circuit 4, which are emitted in the transmitter for the detection of stolen receivers.
  • This data is fed via an error correction circuit 8 to an input of the comparison circuit 10, the second input of which is connected to the PROM memory 9, in which the customer-specific address is stored. If a received address matches the address stored in the memory 9, a signal is output in the comparator 10 via the line F which triggers the destruction of a semiconductor element located in the fuse block 6. This semiconductor element is in the Data stream of the useful signal. If it is destroyed, no signals are passed on to the sound processor 7 connected to block 6, so that the receiver is therefore unusable. It is also possible to use the signal on line F to connect other elements which trigger alarm signals.
