Abstract
The plant element (1) for grassing wall surfaces has a lateral, open, grassing face. It is designed so that a larger surface without gaps can be completely grassed in modular fashion. The grassing face can be either vertical or inclined. The side faces of the plant element support and hold the soil substrate and plant (3) together with the root mat (2). Irrigation by through flow of water through several elements is possible and allows direct and indirect moistening of the soil substrate. Balcony and terrace façades, etc., as well as window sills can be grassed.
Description
Titel: Pflanzelement zur flächenhaften Wandbegrünung Title: Planting element for green wall coverings
The invention relates to a planting element for greening walls, which has a vertical or beveled greening surface on the front. In its basic form it is box-shaped and enables extensive, coherent greening of smaller or larger areas.
Various box-like greening options for walls are known. There are two basic types. One type includes variations of containers hanging or stacked one above the other (DE-OS 32 22 715) or bags (DE-OS 29 21 259), which are in principle staggered flower boxes, i.e. Plant container with a horizontal, green top surface. Another type are variations of boxes that have openings on their side surfaces for growing the plants. Flower columns with individual insulated openings or moss or peat walls with a larger lateral greening area are known, in which a close-meshed grid prevents the floor substrate from falling out.
The disadvantage of the flower column type is that none continuous, seamless greening of walls is possible. The disadvantage of the peat walls is that they are difficult to plant. Both have in common that they do not have an effective irrigation system and are not suitable for large-scale wall greening.
The object of the invention is to provide a greening element that is suitable for both small and large wall greening.
This object is achieved by the features of claim 1 and its subclaims.
According to the main claim, a box element is created that has a green area on the front. This greening area can run vertically or beveled. The root mat and the walls of the planting element ensure the stability of the soil and the plant alone.
The effectiveness of this principle can already be seen in conventional flower pots. They can be tilted, even turned upside down, without the soil or plants falling out. The roots of the plants give the earth sufficient support. Their pressure on the walls prevents the plant from falling out of the tilted flower pot.
It is therefore sufficient to allow the plants to grow at ground level in the planting element. Even if the greening area is then brought into a vertical position, no additional grille is necessary, as with the peat walls mentioned, to give the soil and the plant a hold. According to claim 2 of the side surfaces of the planting element at least two opposite side surfaces should be beveled in the same direction against the rear wall. Side walls, bevelled in this way, give the root mat a secure hold, since at least one of these sides prevents the plant from tipping out. In addition, they provide additional security for the hold of the individual planting elements on the wall, because such a bevel enables a planting element, even if it has become detached from its anchoring, to be carried and held by a lower one.
According to claim 3, at least one of the bevelled side surfaces, together with a part of the rear wall, is suitable for collecting and storing water. To increase the storage volume, this part can additionally be separated from the rest of the floor substrate space with a screen-like covering.
According to claim 4, an embodiment of the planting element has a drip edge (8) which is integrated on a protruding, widened edge. Such a drip edge especially makes it easier to remove individual planting elements from a green wall.
According to claim 5, when watering occurs, the water enters the planting element in a lower part of the element.
It makes sense to let the water flow freely from top to bottom. However, this has the disadvantage that the entire soil substrate is wetted directly. This means that with a longer row of plant elements to be watered and with a longer watering period, the topmost Planting elements get dripping wet. For many plants, these are not favorable growing conditions. To prevent this, the water entry is shifted further down into the element. As a result, only part of the soil is wetted directly, the rest indirectly, with the result that it draws water from the directly moistened soil and thus enables an overall less wet soil. The water can also enter the planting element directly into the water-storing part if it is ensured that part of the soil substrate is still below the overflow line and is thus directly moistened.
Irrigation that directly and indirectly humidifies the soil substrate proves to be very beneficial in regulating the moisture of the soil substrate. If the dripping speed is slowed down, the planting elements can be kept moist, while faster they can be kept drier.
According to claim 6, the hold of the root mat and soil substrate can be supported by further auxiliary devices, such as e.g. Strips, which can also be perforated like a sieve, are secured.
In practice it will often happen that the plants do not have enough time to develop their roots in the whole plant element. If e.g. Plants are freshly planted, especially at the edges, the soil substrate is quite loose. This unstable edge zone can be fixed with an additional bar, for example in the manner of a picture frame.
Bei größeren Pflanzeiemenlen können zusätzlicheIn the case of larger plant bulbs, additional
Moldings or pens help to stabilize the root mat lize. In addition, such strips, if they run horizontally on the walls, can collect and store water.
Strips that are mesh-like or sieve-like have the advantage that roots can grow through them and that the moisture and gas exchange is not impaired by them. Holding devices of this type can be firmly connected to the wall or, if necessary, can be fastened via corresponding devices. The embodiment according to claim 7 represents a frame with an open back. Such a frame can e.g. on a wall sealed with a film.
According to the embodiment of claim 8, additional panels can be attached to the front green area. Particularly in the case of planting elements with a shallow depth or in strong sunlight, such plates reduce evaporation or excessive fluctuations in moisture in the soil substrate.
Plates of this type can also be used on poorly grown soil substrates e.g. help with hydroponics to support the soil substrate.
In order to enable subsequent attachment, the plates only cover a partial area of the planting element and have a cutout for the plant on at least one edge.
Claim 9 describes an embodiment in which the planting elements serve as a holding and watering device for conventional flower pots. The planting elements can also be constructed so that several flower pots in one planting element can be placed.
The claim 10 describes an embodiment of a standing vessel, the front greening surface is not vertical, but beveled. Such a standing vessel is particularly suitable for greening window sills.
The window sill and window usually form a right angle. The cheapest form of greening such an angle is a box element with a triangular cross-section.
Denkbar sind auch Säulen mit abgeschrägter Begrünungsfläche.Columns with a sloping green area are also conceivable.
Auch bei diesen Ausführungsformen sichern die Wurzelmatte und die Wände des Elements den Halt der Pflanze und des Bodensubstrats, wenn auch in geringerem Maß als bei der Ausführungsform mit senkrechterIn these embodiments, too, the root mat and the walls of the element ensure the hold of the plant and the soil substrate, albeit to a lesser extent than in the embodiment with a vertical one
Begrünungsfläche.Landscaped area.
Claim 11 describes an irrigation device with slot-like openings. It essentially creates a hollow body that can be quickly filled with water and from which the water can slowly penetrate into the soil substrate root mat. According to claim 12, an irrigation vessel is created which has no free water passage openings. Instead, it has openings through which an absorbent material such as foam is drawn. The advantage of such an irrigation vessel is that the openings do not become blocked. Smaller openings in particular, which are necessary for drip irrigation, have the disadvantage of clogging easily. The absorbent material, which can also have a larger contact area for water absorption within the water vessel, actively supports the flow of water, especially at lower flow rates. Exemplary embodiments which are illustrated in the drawings are described below.
