Abstract

Procédé de préparation d'un revêtement polymère adhésif, transparent, résistant à la corrosion et à l'abrasion, sur un substrat tel que du verre, du plastique ou du métal, par exemple de l'aluminium ou de l'acier. Le substrat est revêtu d'un mélange constitué jusqu'à environ 15 % en poids d'un monomère polycyclique expansé tel que le spiroorthocarbonate ou le spiroorthoester, un oligomère diépoxyde tel qu'un éther diglycidyle et une lactone dans une concentration comprise entre 1:2,5 et 1:4,5 environ en poids de l'oligomère. A ce mélange, on ajoute une quantité catalytique d'un complexe amine-trialogénure de bore et une quantité catalytique d'un photocatalyseur aromatique qui libère un ion carbonium en présence d'une irradiation ultraviolette. Le substrat revêtu est exposé à une lumière UV à grande longueur d'onde pendant une période de 2 à 20 secondes environ pour commencer la polymérisation. La polymérisation du revêtement est complétée en chauffant le substrat revêtu à une température comprise entre 50° C et 120° C environ pendant une période de temps suffisante pour terminer la polymérisation jusqu'à obtenir un revêtement transparent flexible, robuste, abrasif et résistant à la corrosion. Si le substrat est très mince, le chauffage peut être supprimé, ceci étant laissé à l'appréciation du technicien. Au lieu de chauffer jusqu'à obtenir une polymérisation complète, un acrylate bifonctionnel ou trifonctionnel peut être ajouté au mélange initial. De préférence, le monomère expansé est un spiroorthoester formé in situ par la réaction d'une lactone telle que gamma-butyrolactone avec un époxide, selon l'état actuel de la technique.
