Description

Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Kunststoffbeschichtung Process for the production of a plastic coating
The invention relates to a method for producing a plastic coating for objects with hard surfaces, e.g. Furniture.
The plastic coating of objects with hard surfaces, e.g. Sheets for furniture construction have so far essentially been made by gluing plastic films onto the flat surfaces of the sheets. Edging must be applied to the free side surfaces. In this way it is only possible to coat completely flat surfaces, whereby a clear transition is visible at the edges and it is also at the edges, e.g. due to the influence of moisture, detachments can easily occur.
In another less used method, plastic films are deformed in a cup-like manner by deep drawing and pushed onto the plates. For this, however, a separate deep-drawing tool is required for each plate size and, moreover, the object cannot be completely encased with this method either. A complete covering with a plastic layer was previously only possible with plastic lacquers, but lacquering is very labor intensive.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a method by means of which it is possible to produce a plastic coating that is easy to apply, and that it should also be possible to apply it over edges and curves or elevations and depressions. This goal is achieved by treating a film made from cellulose acetate or celluloid with a liquid which consists of: 70 to 90, preferably 80 RT alcohol, 5 to 15, preferably 10 RT water, 10 to 20 RT acetone and, based on 100 l of liquid, 100 to 200, preferably 150 g of camphor, that the film thus treated is applied to or around the object under slight pressure and then left to dry.
It is advisable to add a few drops of amyl acetate to the liquid. A liquid for the treatment of acetate films for plastic coatings is therefore distinguished according to the invention in that it consists of: 70 to 90, preferably 80 RT alcohol, 5 to 15, preferably 10 RT water, 10 to 20 RT acetone and, based on 100 1 liquid , 100 to 200, preferably 150 g camphor.
The invention is described in more detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment, but without being restricted to this example.
In order to provide the plate 1 shown in section in the drawing with a plastic coating, a liquid mixture is first of all made up of 78 parts alcohol, 8 parts water, 14 parts acetone and 150 g camphor. A few drops of amyl acetate are added to this liquid. An acetate film 2 which is cut to size for the plate 1 is now placed in the liquid mixture and is commercially available under the trade name "ULTRAPHAN" (manufactured by LONZA -Werke GmbH).
The ULTRAphan acetate film is made from 2.5 cellulose acetate with the addition of plasticizers in a casting process and is a hard film with high rigidity. The technical data for this film can be found in the table below.

The treatment with the liquid described above makes the hard film so easily deformable that it can be placed over the surfaces including the curves and edges of the plate 1. The film 2 also fits elevations 3 or depressions 4, as indicated by dashed lines in the drawing.
This covering of the object or the properties of the film softened by the liquid according to the invention could be compared to a pulled-out dough sheet as used for the production of strudel.
The remaining free surface of the plate 1 can be coated with a similarly pretreated film 5.
After a drying or resting time of about 2 to 3 hours, the workpiece can be assembled or is ready for further mechanical processing, e.g. Suitable for drilling or sawing.
