Abstract

Arrangement for a recovery vehicle of the kind which has a lifting arm (2). This extends centrally in the longitudinal sense of the vehicle (1). The lifting arm is pivotally mounted at its front end on a transverse shaft arranged between the front and rear wheels (3, 4) of the vehicle. The recovery vehicle (1) also has a loading platform (6) arranged above the lifting arm (2) and supported by the latter on which to position a vehicle which is to be recovered. This loading platform (6) extends from the driver's cab (7) of the recovery vehicle (1) rearwards towards the rear part of the vehicle. A characteristic feature of the invention is that the loading platform (6) is arranged on a frame (8) consisting of two members (10, 11) which are attached to one another in such a way as to be capable of pivoting about a transverse axis of pivoting (9). Of these, the front member (10) is pivotally mounted at its front edge on a transverse shaft fixed to the chassis of the recovery vehicle (1). The loading platform (6) can be caused to adopt any desired angular position relative to the chassis by means of hydraulically operated cylinder and piston units (12) installed between the chassis and the front member (10). The loading platform (6) is also telescopically arranged in a previously disclosed fashion relative to the rear member (11) of the frame (8), so that it can be displaced rearwards from a front end position to a rear end position, and vice versa.

Description

Arrangement for a recovery vehicle
The present invention relates to an arrangement for a recovery vehicle of the kind which has a lifting arm which extends 5 centrally in the longitudinal sense of the vehicle and is pivotally mounted at its front end on a transverse shaft arranged between the front and the rear wheels of the vehicle, together with a loading platform arranged above the lifting arm and supported by the latter on which to position a vehicle which is to 10. be recovered, which platform extends rearwards from the driver's cab of the recovery vehicle towards the rear part of the vehicle.
Such an arrangement is previously disclosed, for example, in Swedish Patent 7905003-5.
15::
The previously disclosed arrangement functions excellently in itself, although it suffers from the disadvantage that a special drive-up ramp must be installed before a vehicle can be driven up onto the Lifting platform, which is a time—consuming and
20 inconvenient operation, especially if vehicles require to be removed from the scene of an accident. Furthermore the drive—up ramp must always be carried on the recovery vehicle.
The object of the present invention is to make available an
25 arrangement for a recovery vehicle by means of which the above-mentioned drawbacks can be overcome. This is achieved in accordance with the invention in that the loading platform is arranged on a frame consisting of two members which are attached to one another in such a way as to be capable of pivoting about a
30 transverse axis of pivoting, of which the front member is pivotally mounted at its front edge on a transverse shaft fixed to the chassis of the recovery vehicle and can be caused to adopt any desired angular position relative to the chassis by means of hydraulically operated cylinder and piston units installed between
35 the chassis and the front member on said axis of pivoting, and in that the loading platform is telescopically arranged in a previously disclosed fashion relative to the rear member of the frame, so that it can be displaced rearwards from a front end position to a rear end position, and vice versa.
5 The invention is described below in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawing. In the drawing Fig. 1 shows a recovery vehicle in accordance with the present invention with the loading platform in the loading position. Fig. 2 shows the same recovery vehicle with the loading platform in a raised position.
10 Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views from the side, which illustrate in diagrammatic form the construction and function of an arrangement in accordance with the invention, where Fig. 3 shows a forward—inclined position and Fig. 4 shows a rearward—inclined position.
15
The designation 1 is used in the drawings in respect of a recovery vehicle 1 with a lifting arm 2 which extends centrally in the longitudinal sense of the vehicle. The arm 2 is attached at its front end to a transverse shaft 13 which is arranged between the
2.0. front and rear wheels 3, 4 of the vehicle. The lifting arm 2 can be raised and lowered with the help of two hydraulically operated cylinder and piston units 5 acting on the rear end of the lifting arm.
25" Arranged above the lifting arm 2 is a loading platform 6 on which to position a vehicle or items which are to be transported. The loading platform 6 extends from the driver's cab 7 of the recovery vehicle 1 rearwards towards the rear part of the vehicle 1.
30 According to the invention the loading platform 6 is arranged on a frame 8. This frame consists of two members 10, 11 which are attached to one another in such a way as to be capable of pivoting about a transverse axis of pivoting 9. The front member 10 is pivotally mounted at its front edge on a transverse shaft 15 fixed 5 to the chassis 14 of the recovery vehicle 1, which shaft is indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 in the drawing. Two hydraulically operated cylinder and piston units 12 are installed between the chassis 14 of the recovery vehicle 1 and the front member 10 of the frame. In the embodiment illustrated in the drawing, the cylinder and piston units 12 engage in the vicinity of the axis of pivoting 9, but may with advantage also engage on the member 10, for example at a point mid-way between the axis of pivoting 9 and the shaft 15. With the help of the latter the frame 8 and the loading platform 6 can be caused to adopt any desired angular position relative to the chassis 14.
The loading platform 6 is telescopically arranged in a previously disclosed fashion relative to the rear member 11 of the frame, so that it can be displaced rearwards from a front end position to a rear end position, and vice versa.
When a vehicle or item is to be loaded onto the loading platform 6, the relative angular position between the front member 10 of the frame and the chassis 14 is first altered so that the loading platform 6 is inclined rearwards towards the rear part of the vehicle 1 (see Figs. 2 and 4) from an initial position (see Fig. 3) in which it is inclined forwards towards the driver's cab 7 of the recovery vehicle 1. The loading platform 6 is then displaced rearwards until its rear edge is in contact with the surface of the ground (see Fig. 1). In the event of the surface of the ground being inclined in such a way that contact is not achieved between it and the loading platform 6, the relative angular position between the chassis 14 and the member 10 of the frame must be altered further. When the vehicle or the item is in position, the procedure described above is executed in reverse sequence.
In the event of it being wished to lift an item, for example onto a loading bay, the loading platform 6 is brought into the loading position in accordance with the procedure described above. The lifting arm 2 is then raised by means of the cylinder and piston unit 5, which thus also raises the loading platform 6. In the event of it being wished to influence the inclination and the displacement of the loading platform 6 relative to the rear part of the vehicle 1, this can then be effected through interaction between the two cylinder and piston units 5 and 12 and the telescoping capability of the lifting platform 6.
