Abstract

Installation for towing with the boat an enveloped iceberg respectively a resultant water-bag (1). The water-bag (1) has at least at one towing end a tow-bar (9) which is transversal with respect to the towing direction. On the tow-bar (9) are attached rolls (a, b ...) of loops (4) next to each other and used as flexible traction mechanisms. Tow neighbouring loops (4) of a row of loops are connected by another loop in order to form the following row of loops which comprises consequently one loop less until, after forming an acute-angled towing net (5), only one loop or more loops remain to attach the water-bag to a tow-boat. Thereby a uniform distribution of the traction force and a reduction of specific stress in the loop areas are obtained so that the problems of towing the water-bag are eliminated thereby making the towing operation possible with a reduced slide friction coefficient.

Description

Gleichmässige Zugkraftverteilung Uniform distribution of traction
The invention relates to a device for the towing transport of a covered iceberg or an iceberg covering or a water bag resulting therefrom by water, with flexible traction means attached to at least one towing end of the water bag.
Anschließend muß der Kunststoffsack bodenseitig unter Wasser gleichsam zusammengebunden bzw. zusammengezogenIn countries in the world where there is a lack of water, considerations have been made of using icebergs from the Arctic or Antarctic for drinking and industrial water production. It has been found that, even when using several and strongest tugs, so many towing days are required that the icebergs have completely melted off before reaching the destination countries. For this reason, it has been proposed to pack icebergs of a predetermined size drifting in the Arctic and / or Antarctic into waterproof flexible casings, then to pump the sea water or salt water that is also packed out of the casings and then to seal the casings, so that after the partial or complete melting and reaching a certain degree of latitude, the enveloped icebergs driving in the direction of the equator can be transported as water sacks to the destination country or countries by means of a tractor. Plastic envelopes made of film or fabric bags with rubber or plastic coating can be used as coverings for the icebergs. In a known case, a plastic bag is used as the covering, which has a floating ring, as it were, and vertical stabilizing ribs, which are all inflatable. The plastic sack, which is initially open at the top and bottom, is to be put over the relevant iceberg by helicopters. Then the plastic sack must be tied or contracted underwater at the bottom
US-PS 32 89 4OM become. An iceberg encased in this way has a considerable draft even after partial or complete melting. Because the inflated vertical ribs ensure that. Such a plastic bag is difficult to tow because of its draft and the resulting considerable water resistance and, moreover, it cannot be transported through the shallows in front of the coastal areas in question (cf. US Pat. No. 3,289,4
In addition, a method is known for the transport and storage of drinking and industrial water, the water being collected in collecting basins with emptying devices and being fed flexibly in the embodiment of tank hoses, designed for towing behind ships, in the embodiment of tank hoses. The tank hoses are towed to arid areas, where they are stored and emptied. However, such measures are unsuitable for packing icebergs. In addition, the devices for towing are unsatisfactory because the flexible traction means act centrally on the tank hoses. This results in a point-like tensile force attack, which leads to an extremely high load on the tank hoses and is consequently unsuitable for transporting large water if one wants to avoid damage to the tank hoses. This also applies, taking into account the fact that tank hoses of this type, due to their sausage-like or zeppelin-shaped cross-section, also have a relatively strong draft and consequently high water resistance (cf. CH-PS 477 606). In fact, the towing technique is problematic not only in the case of such tank hoses, but generally in the delivery of icebergs. - This is where the invention begins. The invention has for its object to provide a device for the towing transport of an iceberg envelope or a water bag resulting therefrom on the waterway of the type described above, which is characterized by a particularly uniform distribution of traction, taking into account an extremely low sliding resistance in relation to the distinguished forming water bag.
Diese Aufgabe löst die Erfindung bei einer gattungsge- mäßen Schleppvorrichtung dadurch, daß der Wassersack an dem betreffenden Schleppende einen quer zur Schlepprich¬ tung verlaufenden Schleppholm aufweist und an dem Schlepp¬ holm als flexible Zugmittel n Schlaufen in Reihe neben¬ einander befestigt sind und jeweils zwei benachbarte Schlaufen dieser Schlaufenreihe von einer weiterenThis object is achieved by the invention in a generic towing device in that the water bag at the towing end in question has a towing bar extending transversely to the towing direction and n loops are fastened to the towing bar as flexible traction means in series and two each Adjacent loops of this row of loops from another
Aufgrund der erfindungsgemäßen MaßnahmenLoops are formed to form a next row of loops with n-1 loops and so on until n-x or only one loop remains for the connection of the water bag to a tractor, forming a trailing netting. - First of all, these measures of the invention have the consequence that the towing bar or the towing forces acting thereon ensure a water bag formation with an extremely shallow draft, so that, as it were, a flounder-like water bag with extremely low water resistance and consequently sliding resistance is produced. At the same time, care is taken to ensure that the tensile force is distributed over the length of the towing bar and is relatively uniform due to the structure of the towing net according to the invention. An almost even distribution of traction is achieved by tapering the towing or loop network up to 30. Because of the measures according to the invention
- Darin sind die wesentlichen durch die Erfindung erreichten Vorteile zu sehen.OM the water bag can now be transported relatively quickly to its target with only a single tractor without fear of damage. In this respect, the problems uin. the iceberg shipment was solved both in terms of transport technology and financially, especially since the towing effort can be kept extremely low in terms of mechanical and energy considerations. All in all, the towing device according to the invention enables a particularly economical and functionally appropriate shipment of covered icebergs or water sacks resulting therefrom to the respective destination countries, with the shallow depths in front of the coastal areas in question being easily passed over due to the shallow draft can be. - This shows the main advantages achieved by the invention.
Thus, according to a preferred embodiment, the towing bar is designed as a link bar and is divided into a plurality of bar links with loop holes for connecting n loops of the first row of loops. The limb formation of the towing bar ensures its perfect adaptation to the water surface. In addition, a desired flexibility is achieved in relation to the towing bar. The invention further provides that the water bag has a bead-like edge reinforcement made of leather, rubber or plastic at the relevant towing end and the spar members comprise this edge reinforcement or include the sack material on the top and bottom and when the towing is attacking ¬ forces in the towing direction against the edge reinforcement.
