Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a brush holder and an electric motor provided with such a brush holder.
  • the brush holder described in this patent comprises a support member having a central orifice intended for the passage of the manifold of a motor and forming two housings of rectangular section allowing the sliding of two brushes in a substantially radial direction.
  • Each brush has a rectangular section and its face facing radially outwards has a part slightly inclined towards one side.
  • Axles fixed on the support member each carry a spring which comprises on the one hand, a hooking arm fixed on a projection of the support member and on the other hand, a return arm, which normally pushes back the associated brush towards the central orifice intended to house the collector, the return arm acting by pressing against the slightly inclined end face.
  • the side face of the brush which faces the spring return arm, has a small notch on the side and the spring arm has a length such that, when the brushes are pushed outwards to the maximum , the end of the spring arm leaves the face end and comes against the side face.
  • the spring then exerts a force perpendicular to the sliding direction of the brush which is thus wedged against the wall of its housing and can no longer slide towards the center.
  • This external brush holder device is perfectly satisfactory. Before mounting the motor, the brushes are pushed outward by hand so that the associated springs keep them in these positions.
  • the device described has drawbacks. Indeed, the support member is very complicated because it must form a rectangular section for the sliding of each brush and must have a hooking projection of the end of the spring which is opposite the return arm. In addition, the support must include pins retaining the springs in a suitable position. Consequently, the support member of the brush holder is very expensive and its production is difficult. The size of this brush holder is, moreover, important, so that it is ill-suited to small-sized motors, in particular to motors used for controlling automobile accessories.
  • the invention relates to a brush holder which has the advantageous characteristic of retaining the brush in the external position by the spring which is normally used for returning the brush to the collector.
  • the support member of the brush holder according to the invention is extremely simple and inexpensive to produce. More specifically, it is formed in a single piece cut from a flat plate. The support member must not meet tight tolerances and no operation is necessary after cutting, for example by punching.
  • the invention relates to a brush holder which comprises:
  • a support member having an orifice intended for the passage of the collector of an electric motor, the support member having at least two brush guide devices in substantially radial direction and, associated with each guide device, a spring retaining device, - at least two brushes intended for each slide in one of the aforementioned guide devices, between an external position and an internal position, and
  • the support member is a flat plate having, in its central zone, a hole intended for the passage of an electric motor manifold, at least two recesses with substantially radial parallel edges opening into said hole and ending before the outer periphery of the plate to form brush guide devices, each brush having two rec tilinear grooves symmetrical with respect to its axis by which it slides along the edges of the associated event;
  • the plate comprises, for each recess, a spring housing opening and a hole for retaining the first hooking end of a spring.
  • each retaining orifice of the first hooking end of the spring opens into the spring housing opening.
  • each open ture of spring housing advantageously has a substantially circular shape, intended to accommodate the turns of a helical spring, and the retaining orifice has an elongated shape substantially parallel to the circular edge of the opening, this orifice opening into the opening by a passage of width less than the length of the orifice so that a locking tab is delimited between the opening and the orifice.
  • Each spring advantageously comprises a helical spring part having, at a first end, a hooking part forming two bends substantially at 90 ° and, at the other end, a straight or slightly bent arm.
  • the support member advantageously has a circular shape and it has, at its outer periphery, notches intended to allow the blocking of the brush holder so that it cannot be rotated.
  • the invention also relates to an electric motor with a collector, comprising a brush holder of the type described above.
  • the brush holder according to the invention comprises only one flat plate of very simple manufacture, the desired number of brushes, of conventional type, simply having two grooves, and a corresponding number of springs of a very simple type and very robust.
  • This small number of elements and the simplicity of their manufacture allow the realization of a low-cost brush holder.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 are schematic plan views of a brush holder according to the invention, comprising only two brushes, one of which is in the internal position and the other in the external position; and - Figure 2 is a perspective of the brush holder of Figure 1, the left part of which is exploded so that the configuration of the brush and the spring appears clearly.
  • the brush holder according to the invention as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 essentially comprises a support organ 10, brushes 12 and springs 14.
  • the support member is formed by a cut flat plate 10. It is made of any rigid plastic material and electro-insulating, for example of the bakelite type. In one embodiment, it has a diameter of about 6 cm and a thickness of about 2 mm. In fact, this plate must only withstand very low mechanical forces and it practically does not suffer from wear. It has a circular central hole 16, intended for the passage of the manifold 18 of the rotor of an electric motor, (the manifold 18 is shown in phantom in Figure 1). Two recesses 20 of rectilinear shape are arranged radially with respect to the central orifice 16, where they open; they have rectilinear and parallel edges 22 and are limited by transverse ends 24 distant from the periphery of the plate 10. The two recesses 20 are symmetrical with respect to the axis of the plate 10.
  • Openings 26 for housing the springs are offset by an angle of about 60 ° relative to the recesses 20.
  • Elongated orifices 28, substantially parallel to the edges of the openings 26, communicate with the associated opening 26 by a passage 30, the width is less than the length of the orifice 28. In this way, a tab 32 is delimited between the opening 26 and the orifice 28.
  • Each brush 12 has a parallelepipoidal body of carbon or sintered bronze, the end of which faces the collector is rounded, with a radius corresponding to that of the collector, in known manner.
  • Two opposite faces of the body have parallel grooves 34, the bottoms of which are separated by a distance slightly less than the distance separating the edges 22 of the recesses 20.
  • the width of the brush, measured between the faces having the grooves 34, is greater than the width of the recess 20 so that, when as the grooves are slid over the edges 22, each brush 12 is guided along a recess 20 but cannot move in a direction other than the longitudinal direction of the associated recess 20.
  • Each brush is secured to a connecting wire 36, advantageously a copper braid, and its external face has a groove 38 of shallow depth and the bottom of which is slightly inclined, this groove being intended to position the end of the return arm. of a spring 14.
  • Each spring 14 has several circular turns whose outside diameter, in the relaxed state, is very slightly less than that of the circular hole 26 of the support member 10.
  • a first brown end of the spring 14, forming a hooking part comprises a first rectilinear zone 40, which is folded twice at 90 ° as indicated by the references 42 and 44; in this way, the end 46 of this strand is substantially parallel to the plane of the plate 10, when the spring is mounted in an orifice 26, but it is at a different level from that of the zone 40
  • the other strand d 'end of the spring forms an arm 48 whose end 50 is slightly bent.
  • FIG. 1 and 2 clearly show the relative arrangement of the different elements.
  • Each brush is guided in a recess 20, the edges 22 of the recess penetrating and sliding in the grooves 34 of the brushes.
  • the arm 48 is normally in abutment against the external face of the brush, as indicated on the right part of FIG. 1.
  • the curved end 50 of the arm 48 resting against a lateral face of the brush. Consequently, this brush is clamped against an edge 22 of the associated recess 20 and cannot slide towards the collector 18.
  • Obtaining this characteristic is important according to the invention. It requires that the openings 26 have a suitable position on the support member 10.
  • this characteristic of the blocking of the brush in the external position is obtained when the distance, measured parallel to the longitudinal axis of the recess 20, between the point 52 of articulation of the arm 48 and the center of the orifice 16, is clearly less than the distance between the end 50 of the arm 48 and the center of the orifice 16 when this end 50 is on the edge connecting the lateral face of the brush 12 to its external face . It is, moreover, preferable that the end of the arm 48 is slightly bent so that it is the end 50, which bears against the external face of the brush and not an intermediate part.
  • the mounting of the brush holder according to the invention is very simple. Indeed, it suffices to insert the turns of the spring 14 into the opening 26, so that the rectilinear zone 40 slides in the passage 30 connecting this opening to the orifice 28. A force is then exerted on the arm 48 to bring the end 46 of the spring into the bottom of the opening 28. The area 40 of this end strand comes, in this movement, to slide under the tab 32 so that the spring can no longer come out of the opening 26, neither on one side because the tab 32 blocks the area 40, nor on the other side because the end 46 bears against the face of the plate 10. The arm 48 then being pushed back far enough , it is held by one hand, and the operator slides the corresponding broom
  • the brush holders whose brushes are in the locked external position, are mounted in the motor and, when the rotor has been put in place, an operator simply pushes the brushes towards the collector , the spring automatically sliding on the lateral face and coming to bear on the end face as indicated on the right side of FIG. 1.
  • the shape of the support plate 10 largely clears the access of the brushes 12 so that this operation is very easy.
