Definitions

  • This invention relates generally to air conditioners and more particularly to a car air conditioner that is very economical to use.
  • the primary object of this invention is to provide a car air conditioner whose compressor is connected to the propeller shaft by means of belts and pulleys, hence when the car is running, the air conditioner operates and when the car stops, the air conditioner also stops.
  • This method of connection results in a negligible consumption of gasoline and at the same time prevents the overheating of the engine. This is because the compressor is not directly connected to the engine, hence, it is the kinetic energy of the flywheel that is being maximized.
  • FIGURE 1 is a diagrammatic representation of the first embodiment of my car air conditioner using a single compressor; and FIGURE 2 is a diagrammatic representation of the second embodiment using two independent compressors.
  • FIG. 1 there is shown the first embodiment of my car air conditioner comprising basically a compressor 10, a condenser 11, an expansion valve 12, evaporator 13, and the necessary pipings 14.
  • the various accessories like the condenser blower 15, drier 16, temperature sensing bulb 17, and evaporator blower 18, are connected to the basic components in a conventional manner.
  • the interconnections and operations of the essential elements are conventional, hence, it will not be described in detail.
  • the detailed description will be focused only to the novel and inventive feature of this air conditioner, i.e., the mechanism involved and the manner of installing the compressor to the propeller shaft.
  • the compressor 10 is connected to the propeller shaft 19 by means of a bolt 20 which wrapped around the sheave of the pulley 21 and 22.
  • the rear universal joint 23 which consist of a driving yoke 24, a cross joint 25, and driven yoke 26, facilitate this connection.
  • the axle 27 can move freely up and down or from side to side as the wheels roll over the irregularities of the road.
  • the pipings 28 of the compressor 10 are made flexible to compensate for the irregularities of the road. Also, the compressor 10 is mounted to the axle 27 by means of a mounting bracket B (shown in phantome line). This is done so that the movement of the differential housing 29, axle 27 and the compressor 10 will harmonize with whatever movement of the propeller shaft 19.
  • the pulley 21 does not lengthen the propeller shaft 19 because its thickness corresponds to the lock nuts (not shown) which are originally fitted to the yoke 26 and flange 30. Now in place of these four nuts, a pulley 21 is used. This pulley is provided with internally threaded holes whose diameter corresponds to the diameter of the bolt 31.
  • another compressor 32 is installed. This arrangement is optional on the part of the car owner. More specially if his car has already an existing air conditioner. This compressor 32 facilitates the continuous operation of the air conditioner even when the car is not moving or when the car is caught in a heavy traffic. These two compressors are operated one at a time or simultaneously.
  • an engine cooler is installed in the system to be assured that the engine will not overheat. This is done by extracting some of the refrigerant after they have passed the drier 16 and passing to a capillary tubing 37 then into a coiled tubing 36 inside a cylindrical shell 33. Hot water enter the spout 34 and leaves at the spout 35.
  • the materials used for the pulley are mild steel, aluminum and hard plastics, etc., however, other materials suited for the purpose may also be used.
